摘要: A process to remove the glucosinolates of oilseed meals, such as Brassica carinata oilseed meals, is provided. In one embodiment, exogenous myrosinase is used to convert the glucosinolates to volatile isothiocyanate compounds, which can then be removed under conditions of mild heat and negative pressure. In another embodiment, heat and pressure are used to remove glucosinolates from Brassica carinata oilseed. The processed meals may contain less than 80% of their starting levels of glucosinolates and may be suitable for use in various applications, including as animal feeds.

摘要: Variable-scale, modular, easily manufacturable, energy efficient, reliable, and computer operated Insect Production Superstructure Systems (IPSS) may be used to produce insects for human and animal consumption, and for the extraction and use of lipids for applications involving medicine, nanotechnology, consumer products, and chemical production with minimal water, feedstock, and environmental impact. An IPSS may comprise modules including feedstock mixing, enhanced feedstock splitting, insect feeding, insect breeding, insect collection, insect grinding, pathogen removal, multifunctional flour mixing, and lipid extraction. An IPSS may be configured to be constructed out of a plurality of containerized modules.

摘要: A process and an apparatus are described for adding additives during the conditioning of animal feed. The feed is transferred from a container (1) into a conditioner (3) via a feed screw (2) at an inlet point (M). In the conditioner (3), the feed is transported by a mixing screw (12) from an inlet point (M) along a path (A) to an exit point (N), and is exposed to vapor in the course of this. One or more additives (5) which are introduced into the conditioner (3) through one or more ports (10) are added to the feed which, has passed through x% of the path (A) in the conditioner (3). The feed and the additives (5) added through one or more ports (10) are mixed on the remaining (100-x)% of the path (A) to form a mixture (6). The mixture (6) leaving the conditioner (3) at the exit point (N) is transferred to a pelleting press (7), where the mixture (6) is formed into pellets (8). The pellets (8) are finally transferred to a cooling device (9). The additives, in particular enzymes, vitamins, carotenoids and antibiotics, are not added to the main feed components until toward the end of the conditioning step. In this manner, these relatively heat-labile substances are exposed to elevated temperatures only for a relatively short time and experience much less stress than would be the case for complete passage through the conditioning unit.

摘要: For preparing cattle feed mixtures, especially pumpable liquid feed mixtures, the feed components are added consecutively to a weighing and mixing container and mixed. Before or while the feed mixture is being prepared, the pH of the mixture is measured and, if it exceeds a specified value during a continued mixing process, acid is added as the last additive to the feed mixture until the specified value is reached. For this purpose, a pH measuring probe, which is passed through the wall of the container, is provided in the lower region of the weighing and mixing container.

摘要: An apparatus for cooling and conditioning chopped, fibrous materials such as chopped alfalfa, wood chips or the like includes a rotatable drum having helical flights for advancing materials as well as a series of radial flights that selectively retard portions of the fibrous materials. A spray apparatus located within upstream regions of the drum directs a spray of water and additives such as binders and preservatives toward the materials, while an induced stream of air flowing through the drum in countercurrent relationship to the advancement of materials causes cooling of the latter by conduction as well as evaporation. Relatively finer and therefore drier portions of the fibrous materials are directed rearwardly by the countercurrent stream of air back toward the spray apparatus to thereby increase the moisture content of the same and equilibrate with regard to the moisture content of remaining portions of the fibrous materials. The drum rotates slowly to mix and condition the materials and also functions as an accumulator in case upstream or downstream processes are interrupted.
