Abstract: The invention relates to processing apparatus and methods and in particular, but not exclusively, to an apparatus that may be used to process a wide variety of feed materials by one or more of milling or grinding, mixing, blending, separation, drying and sterilisation. In a preferred embodiment there is provided a feed material processing apparatus (1) comprising: a chamber (2); at least one inlet (4) in flow communication to an upper region of the chamber (2); a rotor (3) located within the chamber (2) that is rotatable about a substantially vertical axis by a rotation drive (11), wherein the rotor (3) promotes a circulatory flow of feed material and/or gas within the chamber (2); at least one outlet (5) in flow communication from a lower region of the chamber (2). Preferably the apparatus (1) comprises at least one feature located laterally on the rotor (3) to promote the circulatory flow.

Abstract: The present invention is a mixing device and a method of mixing viscous fluids with a mixing device. The mixing device includes a shaft and a first and second supports mounted for rotation with the shaft. A plurality of vanes extend from each support, the vanes defining open ends of the mixer into which fluid is drawn, and openings between the vanes through which fluid is expelled. In use, the mixing device is located in a viscous fluid and the shaft is rotated, thereby effecting rotation of the vanes, causing fluid to move through the vanes and mix the fluid.

Abstract: The present invention is a mixing device and a method of mixing viscous fluids with a mixing device. The mixing device includes a shaft and a support mounted for rotation with the shaft. A plurality of vanes extend from the support and are mounted for rotation with the shaft, the vanes extending generally parallel to the shaft and positioned radially outward from the shaft. Abstract: A mixing device includes vanes arranged so that the outer edges of the vanes define a frusto-conical surface in order to facilitate improved circulation of the liquid being mixed. In one embodiment, the outer edges of the vanes are tapered outward to form the frusto-conical surface. In an alternative embodiment, the inner and outer edges of the vanes are aligned with each other, and the vanes are tilted relative to a central axis to form the frusto-conical surface. Turbines extend between the vanes and shaft for rotating the mixing device. The turbines are arranged to avoid inhibiting entry of liquids through the top and bottom of the mixing device. Feet extend downward from the bottom edge of the mixing device to facilitate mixing of liquids on the bottom of the container.
