The can seaming apparatus is configured to seal a lid to a can through a double seam can seal. The can is positioned and clamped between an upper and a lower chuck. The can driving assembly spins the can and the upper and lower chucks about an axis. The seaming assembly includes two rollers which can selectively be directed to engage the can to form the necessary crimping operations.

The seaming device (100) includes a can placement unit (110) that places a can (C), a seaming chuck unit (120) provided opposite thereto, and a seaming roll (131) that seams an opening of a can (C) and a lid (F). The can placement unit (110) includes a pressing mechanism (111) that presses a plate (112), on which a can is placed, resiliently upward. The seaming chuck unit (130) and the seaming roll (131) are configured to be capable of moving up and down.

At least one of the first tool assembly and the second tool assembly can be moveable between an open position, wherein the blank is received between the first tool assembly and the second tool assembly, and a closed position wherein the blank is formed into the container. At least one of the first tool assembly and the second tool assembly can comprise flange forming features for forming the flange of the container whereby a first portion of the flange is folded with respect to a second portion of the flange.

    摘要: Sealant is applied onto or into a folded-seam closure of a metal can. Instead of introducing sealant into the U-shaped lid flange and drying, the compound or sealant is applied to the flange base. The base of the metal can is dipped into a current of fluid sealant or at least brought into contact with it at the surface. This substantially improves the precision of dosing and the exact amount of applied sealant.

    摘要: A double seam forming apparatus for applying end units to can bodies includes a can seamer (12) with a seaming cam (46). Seaming cam (46) includes a high dwell portion (56) which deforms responsive to force encounterred by tooling during forming of a can seam. A reinforcing pin (72) limits deformation of the high dwell portion to prevent damage. The high dwell portion of the cam includes a force sensor (20) which generates a signal responsive to strain of the high dwell portion due to applied force. The apparatus further includes a monitor apparatus (28). The monitor apparatus includes a controller (30) which includes a processor and a data store (32), and a host station (38). The monitor apparatus is operative to identify seam fault conditions and to store data concerning seamer conditions. The monitor apparatus also operates a can ejector (26) to divert cans identified as having defective seams.

    摘要: This relates to an applied force monitor which is associated with sheet material forming mechanisms so as to determine whether sheet material is being properly formed by the amount of force applied in the formation thereof. A typical force applying member would be a cam. Suitable strain gauges are associated with the force applying member with the strain gauges being coupled in a bridge having a voltage output which is indicative of the applied force and which is directed to a microcomputer into which suitable indicia is selectively fed and such indicia will include high and low forces which would be indicative of a fault. The microcomputer includes a memory in which the faults are stored and in addition to indicating when individual faults do occur, the memory, when excess faults are determined, will serve to shut down the associated machine. Data may be visually displayed or may be permanently recorded by way of a printer.

    摘要: An improved hermetically sealed composite container formed by double-seaming a pair of compounded metal ends to extended length flanges on the opposite ends of a can body so that the compound is bonded to an inner liner on the can body to provide an effective seal. The compound material is placed in the seaming panel and curl area of the metal ends so as to provide a more extensive seal area when the metal ends are double-seamed with the extended flanges on the can body. The extended length flanges provide a considerably greater contact area between the can body inner liner and the metal ends when the metal ends are double-seamed to the can body.
