    摘要: A travelling slot cutting machine and method of cutting a workpiece upon the machine in which there are two independently operable and longitudinally aligned, endless conveyor belts, the adjacent ends of which are spaced apart to define a gap through which a cutting medium may be directed. To cut a workpiece supported over the gap, the cutting medium is directed through the gap while the cutting machine, as well as the gap, are moved longitudinally relative to the stationary workpiece. In moving the gap, the conveyors are clamped against movement over their respective supporting rollers. The supporting rollers are then moved in such a fashion that the length of at least one of the conveyor belts is maintained unchanged as the workpiece is transported from the upper run of one of the conveyor belts to the upper run of the other conveyor belts.

The second supporting table (6) subsequently carries the workpiece (7) completely out of the proximity of the first supporting table (4). The arrangement and the method permit separating the workpieces without damage to the support and the rapid and precise removal of the worked workpieces as well as of the trimmings.

    摘要: Sheet material is moved along its length from a supply to a take-up spool and the material is inspected as it is moved. A garment pattern image is projected on and is moved with the material. The operator determines where the material is to be cut either from the length accumulated on the take-up spool or from the image projected on the material, and if a flaw in the material is detected, the operator determines if the flaw should be removed by identifying the pattern part in the garment from the image projected on the material where the flaw will appear. If the flaw is to be removed, the operator cuts the flaw out and splices the cut ends of material together at splice marks in the image projected on the material. The spools loaded with sheet material with this procedure are loaded in a creel, and the ends of the sheets of material from the spools in the creel are aligned in a vertically stacked arrangement and moved to a cutting apparatus where the garment pattern is cut in the stacked sheets of material.

    摘要: Apparatus for holding sheet material and other objects during cutting or other work thereon includes a vacuum holddown device having a supporting surface including a plurality of vacuum openings passing therethrough. A vacuum chamber associated with the supporting surface applies a vacuum through the vacuum openings to the sheet material or other object or objects received thereon. A sheet or panel of substantially airimpervious sheet material, such as a sheet of thin polyethylene, is spread over the exposed surface of the work and cooperates with the vacuum to draw the work toward the supporting surface and, if it is compressible, into a more compact condition. The air-impervious panel used with the vacuum may be an expendable sheet of such material spread entirely over the surface of the work prior to working thereon and/or may be one or two continuous belts of such material located in front of and/or behind an associated tool. In cases where the work is a layup of garment fabric, the vacuum and air-impervious panel may also be used to hold the layup in a compact condition for a long period of time between the laying up process and the cutting or other work process to prevent the various layers of the layup from shifting, flowing or otherwise moving relative to one another so as to depart from their relative positions as initially laid up.
