摘要: A method, apparatus, and system for applying a vacuum-based pressure on an uncured composite structure. Membranes are bonded to a boundary of a caul. The membranes include positive features that define vacuum channels. The membranes are spliced to each other. The positive features that define the vacuum channels in the membranes are aligned to each other during splicing of the membranes. The membranes spliced to each other and bonded to the caul to form an integrated caul. The integrated caul applies a pressure on the uncured composite structure during operation of the integrated caul.

A caul is placed over the composite materials laid up on the mandrel. An inner mold line of the caul is sized to an outer surface of the composite materials in a cured state. The composite materials laid up on the mandrel with the caul over the composite materials is cured to form the composite part. The composite materials expand to the inner mold line of the caul during curing of the composite materials to form the composite part.

摘要: An article-forming tool comprises an elongate jig having a predefined shape, an elongate flexible vise configured to hold a fiber-composite article of a predefined cross section, and a spacer system. The vise opposes the jig; it includes a series of clamp segments and a flexible spline sheet configured to conform controllably to the shape of the jig. The clamp segments are arranged side-by-side along a length of the vise, each clamp segment comprising a set of platens configured to hold a corresponding longitudinal segment of the article. The flexible spline sheet extends through the series of clamp segments, between opposing platens. The spacer system is configured to control the conformation of the spline to the shape of the jig.

摘要: A manufacturing device manufactures a composite material structure by impregnating resin into a preform formed in a predetermined shape. The manufacturing device includes: a caul plate defining a space inside and covering the preform in the space; a supply part that supplies resin to the preform; a discharge part that discharges a gas from the space through a discharge hole in the caul plate; and a pressure intensifier that is provided in the space and between the caul plate and the preform and pressurizes the preform by a gas being discharged through the discharge part. The pressure intensifier has a web part facing surface facing the preform and a caul plate facing surface facing the caul plate, and through holes between the web part facing surface and the caul plate facing surface are in the pressure intensifier.

摘要: Methods and apparatus involved in the process of hardening a composite part are disclosed herein. The methods include applying a preform to a mandrel, covering the preform with a caul plate, sealing the caul plate to the mandrel, pushing the caul plate toward the preform and the mandrel and hardening the preform into a composite part while the caul plate is held against the preform. The apparatus include a mandrel, a caul plate which defines a surface of a preform and where the caul plate may include a rigid material and seals disposed between the mandrel and the caul plate. In an additional aspect, the apparatus may include a sealed chamber with a mandrel and a caul plate and a circumferential seal between the mandrel and the caul plate.

摘要: A method of monitoring a curing process for fiber reinforced composite materials that includes positioning an actuator on uncured composite material at a first location. At least one sensor is positioned at a second location that is spaced apart from the first location. The actuator excites waves in the composite part at the first location. At least one sensor is positioned at a second location that is spaced apart from the first location. The actuator excites waves in the composite part at the first location. The waves propagate through the composite part due to internal reflection. At least one wave metric is measured at the second location utilizing the sensor. At least one parameter of the curing process may be adjusted based, at least in part, on a wave metric measured by the sensor.
