Abstract: A forming device includes: a forming jig extending along an axial direction; a forming die having a shape corresponding to a top part region and a wall part region of the forming jig; and a movement mechanism that moves the forming die so as to approach a bottom part region along a height direction HD. The forming die includes: a body part; a plate-shaped forming part that is attached to the body part so as to be swingable around a swing shaft; and a pressurization part that generates a pressurization force which causes a distal end part of the forming part to push a layered body against the wall part region when the forming die is moved by the movement mechanism so as to approach the bottom part region. In accordance with the distal end part, the part causes a contact surface to contact a region of the layered body.

Abstract: A method for producing a component having locally different thicknesses includes the steps of providing a first laminate, arranging a release layer on the first laminate, providing a second laminate with a second surface correlating with the first surface of the first laminate, placing the second laminate with the second surface on the first surface so that the release section is enclosed, joining the first with the second laminate by heating and/or pressing, guiding a cutting tool along one release section correlating with the release section, and so that the separating section is included, joining the first to the second laminate by heating and/or pressing, guiding a cutting tool along one contour in the second laminate that correlates with the separating section, so that one segment of the second laminate is completely detached, and removing the detached segment so that a recess is formed in each case.

Abstract: An article-forming tool comprises an elongate jig having a predefined shape, an elongate flexible vise configured to hold a fiber-composite article of a predefined cross section, and a spacer system. The vise opposes the jig; it includes a series of clamp segments and a flexible spline sheet configured to conform controllably to the shape of the jig. The clamp segments are arranged side-by-side along a length of the vise, each clamp segment comprising a set of platens configured to hold a corresponding longitudinal segment of the article. The flexible spline sheet extends through the series of clamp segments, between opposing platens. The spacer system is configured to control the conformation of the spline to the shape of the jig.

Abstract: Textile compositions comprising at least one filamentous fungus are disclosed, as are methods for making and using such textile compositions. Embodiments of the textile compositions generally include at least one of a plasticizer, a polymer, and a crosslinker, in addition to the filamentous fungus. The disclosed textile compositions are particularly useful as analogs or substitutes for conventional textile compositions, including but not limited to leather.

Abstract: The method includes: a) a step of stacking and shaping a prepreg according to the shape of a surface of the structure; b) a step of vacuum-pressurizing the stacked and shaped prepreg; c) a step of heating and curing the vacuum-pressurized prepreg to produce a cured product of the prepreg; and d) a step of bonding the cured product to the surface of the structure. The prepreg includes: a resin composition including an ethylenically unsaturated group-containing resin (A) and a polymerization initiator (B); and reinforcement fibers (C). The polymerization initiator (B) has a 10-hour half-life temperature of 60° C. to 75° C. This method for reinforcing and repairing the structure allows a structure having excellent workability and excellent mechanical strength to be obtained.

a base material heating step for heating the base laminate, and
a molding step for integrating the base laminate and the metal part by pressing them between a rib molding member having a recessed portion for forming a rib and a skin molding member free of such a recessed portion in a pressing device.-

Abstract: An in-situ melt processing method for forming a fiber thermoplastic resin composite overwrapped workpiece, such as a composite overwrapped pressure vessel. Carbon fiber, or other types of fiber, are combined with a thermoplastic resin system. The selected fiber tow and the resin are prepared for impregnation of the tow by the resin. The resin is melted; and, carbon fiber is impregnated with the melted resin at the filament winding machine delivery head. The molten state of the composite is maintained and is applied, in the molten state, to the heated surface of a workpiece. The portion of the surface being wrapped is heated to the melting point of the thermoplastic resin so that the molten composite more efficiently adheres to the heated surface of the workpiece and so that the uppermost layer of fiber resin composite is molten when overwrapped resulting in better adherence of successive layers to one another.
