    Abstract: An apparatus (10) is provided, configured for use with a trailer (48) of a tractor trailer (44), that includes forward and rearward axles (12, 28) that each have a central body. The forward axle (12) has first and second mounting portions (16, 20) that are configured to receive first and second wide base tires (24, 26). The rearward axle (28) has first and second rearward mounting portions (32, 36) configured to receive third and fourth wide base tires (40, 42). The first forward mounting portion axis (18) is oriented at an angle (56) from +0.75-+0.95 degrees to the lateral direction, and the second forward mounting portion axis (22) is oriented at an angle (58) from +0.08-+0.28 degrees to the lateral direction. The first rearward mounting portion axis (34) is oriented at an angle (60) from +0.65-+0.85 degrees to the lateral direction, and the second rearward mounting portion axis (38) is oriented at an angle (62) from −0.05-+0.15 degrees to the lateral direction.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a turn system actuated by hydraulic cylinders, applied to the four wheels of sugar-cane harvesters, wherein the harvester (80) comprises a rear axle (23) and a front axle (24), with wheel assemblies (9) associated to the axles (23, 24), wherein the rear axle (23) and the front axle (24) have a turn system, the one of the rear axle (23) being actuated by means of a double-action rear hydraulic cylinder (1) and that of the front axle (24) being actuated by means of a double-action front hydraulic cylinder (11), the hydraulic cylinders (1, 11) receiving a flow of oil through at least one flow divider (61) connected to an ortibrol (65) actuated by means of a steering wheel (60) of the harvester (80), the flow of oil received by the flow divider (61) being proportional to a factor related to the turn of the steering wheel (60), the turn system enabling the turn of the wheel assemblies (9) in amplitude ranging from 0.5 to 40 degrees, to the right or to the left, with respect to the longitudinal axis of the harvester (80).

    Abstract: A method of forming metal castings, including positioning a first end of a structural member in a first mold cavity and a second end of the structural member in a second mold cavity. The first and second mold cavities being fluidly coupled to a reservoir of molten metal. Applying a main pressure to the molten metal in the reservoir to force the molten metal into the first mold cavity and the second mold cavity. Then, applying a first auxiliary pressure to the first mold cavity and a second auxiliary pressure to the second mold cavity to densify the casting formed in the first mold cavity and the second mold cavity. Also, a method for casting including maintaining a main pressure at or less than an initial, mold-filling pressure after first and second mold cavities have been filled. Additionally, a method for detecting whether a first mold cavity is sufficiently filled with molten metal by monitoring a moveable element.

    Abstract: A vehicle axle is provided with a main body defined by the combination of a channel having an inverted U-shaped configuration and a bottom plate. The ends of the main body are curved upwardly to define a pair of gooseneck portions. Axle head sections are formed at the ends of the axle and are closed off by end extensions extending from the front and rear walls of the channel and a cover flap extension extending from the top wall of the channel. A head plate having a rounded back edge and/or a pocket is inserted within the space between the cover flap and the top edges of the end extensions.

    Abstract: A front axle beam assembly is provided comprising a center beam portion having opposing first connections. Knuckles having second connections are secured to the first connections of the beam preferably by threaded fasteners. A spindle is pivotally supported on each knuckle by king pins. The center portion of the axle may be constructed from a material different than that of the knuckles. Moreover, the knuckles may be formed by a different process than that of the center axle portion. For example, the center portion may be constructed from an aluminum casting while the knuckles may be constructed from a steel forging. Different axle center portions may be selected depending on the desired track and suspension attachment points. Similarly, the knuckles may be selected to provide desired suspension attachment points for linkages, airbags, and/or leaf springs. The knuckles may be selected to achieve a desired axle beam drop. Preferably, the center axle portion and knuckles include complimentary interlocking portions that locate the knuckles relative to the center axle portion during assembly. The knuckles and center axle portions are secured at the joint that defines a desired angle selected to minimize stresses at a joint and provide ease of assembly.

A reinforcing sleeve is arranged concentric to the hollow beam between the ends with the reinforcing sleeve secured to the hollow beam, preferably, by weld beads. The hollow beam and reinforcing sleeve initially may be cylindrical tubes that are secured to one another. Subsequently the hollow beam and reinforcing sleeve may be bent into a desired shape and then further formed using a hydroforming or other process to obtain cross-sectional areas of various shapes along the length of the beam.
