Abstract: A wheel-balancing weight mounts to a wheel with a flange. The weight includes a body and a clip. The body is stamped by a punch to define a pocket within which an attaching portion of the clip resides. The defined pocket has a planar base and opposing side walls generally perpendicular to the base. The body as stamped by the punch includes a pre-stake for each side wall external to the pocket and adjacent the side wall, and an undercut for each side wall within the pocket and generally located at a juncture of the side wall and the base.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a wheel, in particular for vehicles, such as motor vehicles, with a rim ring having an opening defined there through, and with a main support at least partially arranged in the opening in the rim ring. The wheel, despite having a low weight, provides adequate rigidity and strength and can be produced in a simple manner, while maintaining design flexibility. The main support of the wheel has a plurality of spokes, and a plurality of covering parts for at least partially covering the spokes, wherein the main support and the covering parts support the rim ring.

Abstract: Vehicle wheel comprising a rim part and a disc part formed from a one-piece sheet metal blank and including a central portion with bolt holes and a plurality of radially extending spoke arrangements merging into a disc edge delimiting together with the spoke arrangements ventilation apertures which extend over the region between the edge webs and the disc edge. In order to create steel wheels with four-hole fixing in which high strength and stiffness are achieved the number of spoke arrangements and of bolt holes is four and these are in each case arranged mirror-symmetrically with respect to a common radial line, with the width of each spoke arrangement narrowing radially towards the outside and each ventilation aperture extending in the circumferential direction over an arc length of more than ⅙ of the circumference of the disc part. Further, each ventilation aperture is having on a radial line a maximum radial clear width which is equal to or preferably greater than the radial width of the metal portion of the disc part on the same radial line.

Abstract: A drive axle assembly having at least one drive shaft tube and at least one substantially horizontal drive shaft located within the tube. The drive shaft is connected at an inboard end to a differential and an outboard end of the drive shaft has a first bevel gear. The first bevel gear is meshed with a second bevel gear within a shoulder structure. The second bevel gear is located on a non-horizontal drive shaft. A selectively closeable opening is provided in the shoulder structure for installing and maintaining the bevel gears.

Abstract: An axle assembly includes an upper and lower housing joined to form a chamber for a differential gear assembly. The upper and lower housings are fabricated by a method including the steps of forming the upper housing from a first sheet of material and forming the lower housing from a second sheet of material. The upper housing includes an opening for the differential gear assembly and the lower housing includes a bowl portion disposed opposite the opening. The upper and lower housings are joined by a weld to from the axle housing. Abstract: An axle housing cover is provided including a generally dome-shaped portion having a first thickness with the dome-shaped portion terminating in a perimeter edge. The perimeter edge has a second thickness greater than the first thickness with the perimeter edge providing a weld surface. Preferably, the second thickness is approximately twice that of the first thickness. Since the dome-shaped portion has a reduced thickness, reinforcing ribs may be formed in the dome-shaped portion to provide increased structural integrity. The cover may include a flange extending radially from the cover, which provides the weld surface that is then welded to the axle housing. The axle housing cover may be formed by a stamping or a hydroforming process.
