The carrier includes two side members which extend in the longitudinal direction of the seat and to which is hinged a longitudinal member of a leg support bearing the front portion of the partial seat cushion so as to pivot around an axis, extending in the transverse direction of the seat, and to be fixed into selectable swivel positions. A spring-loaded swiveling device is assigned to the leg support wherein said swiveling device exerts on the leg support a swivel force, which is smallest in the lowest swivel position and increases until the highest swivel position has been reached.

A vertical seat adjuster for vehicle seats includes a seat support bracket fixed to the seat and having front and rear arcuate slots. Front and rear levers are pivotally mounted on the vehicle and pivotally secured to the seat support bracket. The pivotal mountings of the levers are received through the slots of the bracket. A lock plate for each lever is slidably mounted on the bracket for movement between an engaged position wherein it engages the pivot means projecting through the slot of the seat support bracket to lock the bracket in a vertical adjusted position, and a released position, wherein the bracket is movable relative to the pivot means upon rotation of the lever thereabout. A manually operable release mechanism selectively and alternately moves the lock plates to released position and such plates are biased to engaged position.

The support is adjustable vertically in inclination and in height. It has a first lower rigid framework fast to the floor of the vehicle, a second rigid framework mounted pivotably around a horizontal axis connected to the first framework and extending over the width of the seat and a third rigid framework mounted pivotably around a second horizontal axis parallel to the first and connected to the second framework. First locking means actuate the locking and unlocking of the second framework in one or other of a plurality of its different angular positions of pivoting with respect to the first framework around the first axis, and second locking means actuate at will the locking and unlocking of the third framework in one or other of a plurality of its different angular positions of pivoting with respect to the second framework around the second axis. The first locking means are two gear sectors centred on the first axis and adapted to cooperate between themselves on locking, of which sectors one is fast to the first framework and of which the other is mounted on the second framework so as to be movable with respect to the first under the control of a rotary cam. The second locking means are also two gear sectors centred on the second axis and adapted to cooperate between themselves on locking, of which sectors one is fast to the third framework and of which the other is mounted on the second framework so as to be movable with respect to the first under the control of a second rotary cam. The two cams are constantly urged elastically towards their angular positions corresponding to locking, the gear sectors mounted on the second framework being constantly fast to the latter.

Herein disclosed is a position adjustable support mechanism which is adapted to vary the height and/or inclination of a load supported on the support mechanism. The support mechanism uses a hydro-pneumatic spring which is extendable and contractable when subjected to a rotational force which is exerted thereon by rotating an operated lever. The support mechanism may be applied to an adjustable seat of a motor vehicle or an aircraft so that the seat position is varied steplessly. Where the support mechanism is combined with the adjustable seat, the support mechanism may be modified to include an additional hydropneumatic spring to permit the seat back to steplessly tilt relative to the seat proper.
