    摘要: A passive heave compensator having: a main hydraulic cylinder, including a moveable piston having a piston rod extendible through the main hydraulic cylinder and a piston head to divide the main hydraulic cylinder between a gas phase above the piston head, and oil phase below the piston head; an upper connection point associated with the main hydraulic cylinder and a lower connection point associated with the piston rod; and an accumulator having a moveable separator to divide the accumulator between a gas phase above the separator, and an oil phase below the separator and being in communication with the oil phase in the main hydraulic cylinder; wherein an oil phase includes a magnetorheological substance, and that the passive heave compensator includes one or more electromagnetic controllers. In this way, operation of the one or more electromagnetic controllers can magnetise the magnetorheological substance to vary the viscosity of the oil phase, thus changing the degree of damping that can be provided by the passive heave compensator.

    摘要: The invention relates to a transverse travelling crane for ships which comprises a fixed horizontal crane beam extending transversely of the ship through a superstructure thereon. The beam has substantially the same length as the width of the ship, and the superstructure is accommodated with access openings on either side thereof. At each end of the fixed beam is an upwardly pivotable cantilever crane beam. In inactive position the cantilever beam or beams are swung up to vertical position along the side of the ship. A winch carriage is adapted for travelling along the crane beams. The carriage is provided with a travelling and hoisting wire system having wires extending out to pulleys located at the respective outer end of each cantilever beam, and these wires run beneath guiding means such as pulleys in the vicinity of the pivoting axes of the cantilevered beams. Thus the wires are operative so that the crane without readjustments can be used with none, one or both cantilever beams in the active position.

    摘要: A payload control apparatus includes a spring-line a spring line actuating mechanism, a spring line flying sheave over which a load line can pass, and a spring line, wherein the spring line flying sheave can move into a position either where the flying sheave is spaced from and in non-contact with or contacting but non-path-altering in relation to the load line, further wherein the spring-line flying sheave can be moved into another position such that the flying sheave engages the load-line and alters its path length. Thus, when a marine surface vessel falls in a heave event that would otherwise cause the payload at the end of the load line to fall as well, the flying sheave will move to increase the path length causing a shortening of the path length, thereby preventing the payload from falling.
