The present invention relates to a method for producing polyethercarbonate-polyoxymethylene block copolymers, comprising the step of polymerizing formaldehyde, wherein formaldehyde is polymerized in the presence of a polyethercarbonate having at least one Zerewitinoff-active H atom, obtaining an intermediate product. The obtained intermediate product can be further reacted with a cyclic carboxylic acid ester or carbonic acid ester, a cyclic anhydride, an epoxide, and/or an isocyanate, wherein a hydroxyl- or carboxy-functional or NCO-modified polyethercarbonate-polyoxymethylene block copolymer is obtained. The present invention further relates to polyethercarbonate-polyoxymethylene block copolymers that can be obtained by means of such a method and to the use of same to produce polyurethane polymers.

The invention relates to a method for producing functionalized polyoxymethylene block copolymers comprising the step of polymerizing formaldehyde in a reaction vessel in the presence of a catalyst, the polymerization of formaldehyde in addition taking place in the presence of a starter compound comprising at least 2 Zerewitinoff active H atoms, to obtain an intermediate product. The intermediate product obtained is subsequently reacted with a cyclic carboxylic acid ester or carbonic acid ester, thus obtaining a functionalized polyoxymethylene block copolymer. The invention further relates to functionalized polyoxymethylene block copolymers obtained by such a method and to the use of said copolymers.

The invention relates to a process for working up particulate crude polyoxymethylene, which comprises the following steps: (a) introduction of the particulate crude polyoxymethylene into an extraction column (13) operated at a pressure in the range from 1 to 6 bar, (b) introduction of a polar extractant into the extraction column (13) with a temperature in the range from 95 to 140° C. and a pressure in the range from 1 to 6 bar, wherein from 10 to 1000 ppm, based on the amount of polar extractant introduced, of a buffer substance which buffers in the pH range from 7.5 to 11.5 are introduced into the extraction column (13).

The compounds of formula (I) can be oligomeric compounds (polymerization degree x.sub.n from 2 to about 20) or polymeric compounds (x.sub.n from about 20 to about 100). Granular oxymethylene polymers are prepared by cooling a solution or dispersion of an oxymethylene polymer, the temperature of the said solution or dispersion being above the sintering temperature of the oxymethylene polymer, to a temperature just below the said sintering temperature. As dissolving or dispersing agent there is used a mixture of methanol and water. The cooling of the said solution or dispersion is effected in two stages while using a liquid cooling agent or a cooling device. After precipitation the coarse-granular polymer is separated from the fine-granular portion. It is suitable as engineering plastic for preparing molded articles.
