摘要:
A method for treating a paper to provide at least a part of it with anisotropic electric conductivity, by i) applying to the paper a dispersion comprising a non-aqueous, liquid dispersing agent and conductive particles, ii) applying an electric field over at least part of the paper, so that a number of the conductive particles are aligned with the field, thus creating conductive pathways, and wholly or partially eliminating the dispersing agent and allowing the paper to dry thereby stabilizing and preserving the conductive pathways in the paper as well as paper so produced. The paper may alternatively be prepared from a cellulose dispersion comprising conductive particles and subjecting the dispersion for similar aligning of the conductive particles.

A paper particularly adapted for use as cover sheets in the production of gypsum wallboard, the paper having improved porosity and strength to permit better drainage and more rapid drying in the production of the paper to permit less fiber to be utilized, and to permit less heat to be utilized in drying the paper, providing for production of superior gypsum board. The paper comprises in weight percent:(A) fibers having a fiber freeness of from about 350 to 550 ml. Canadian Standard Freeness,(B) a buffering agent in an amount from about 0.25 to about 10%,(C) a neutral sizing agent in an effective amount to prevent water penetration, and(D) a cationic starch. In a preferred embodiment the paper is treated with a neutral internal sizing agent during its formation, and subsequently treated with a surface sizing agent after formation of the paper, in order to provide certain properties including better adhesion to the gypsum core.

A macroscale, self-supporting, composite laminate sheet includes individual, layered graphene oxide sheets and a polymer in spaces between the sheets. This composite product can be fabricated by combining a suspension of individual graphene oxide sheets and a solution of polymer, passing the resulting fluid through a fluid-permeable support, and assembling the graphene oxide sheets and polymer as a laminate sheet by flow-directed assembly. The laminate is dried and released from the membrane filter as a self-supporting thin films.

The present invention relates to a method for forming a non-woven fibrous web comprised of refractory fibers which comprises forming a foam furnish by agitating the fibers in a foamed medium, and passing the foam furnish onto a screen and defoaming the furnish. The present invention employs a unique apparatus for effectively agitating the refractory fibers in the foamed medium, the agitating means being mounted for displacement within the foamed medium and including a convex leading surface facing in the direction of displacement. The leading surface includes upper and lower portions converging in the direction of displacement to form a generally convex leading surface and driving means for displacing the agitating means in the direction of displacement for dispersing and mutually separating the metal fibers within the foamed medium.

The object of the present invention is to provide a nonwoven fabric for separators of non-aqueous electrolyte batteries which is superior in adhesion to electrodes, causes no breakage of the separator and neither slippage nor space between electrode and the separator at the time of fabrication of battery, provides superior battery processability such as rollability with electrodes, causes no internal short-circuit due to contact between electrodes caused by shrinking or burning of the nonwoven fabric even when electrodes generate heat owing to external short-circuit, whereby ignition of the battery can be inhibited, has no pin holes and is superior in retention of electrolyte and penetration of electrolyte, and which can give non-aqueous electrolyte batteries superior in capacity, battery characteristics and battery storage characteristics. Specifically, the nonwoven fabric for separators of non-aqueous electrolyte batteries according to the present invention has a thickness non-uniformity index (Rpy) of 1000 mV or less or a center surface average roughness SRa of 6 &mgr;m or less in whole wavelength region as measured using a tracer method three-dimensional surface roughness meter.

A multilayered thermal insulating composite is formed of a first layer of zirconia-bonded zirconia fibers for utilization near the hot phase or surface of a furnace or the like. A second layer of zirconia-bonded metal oxide fibers is attached to the zirconia fiber layer by a transition layer formed of intermingled zirconia fibers and metal oxide fibers. The thermal insulation is fabricated by vacuum molding with the layers being sequentially applied from aqueous solutions containing the fibers to a configured mandrel. A portion of the solution containing the fibers forming the first layer is intermixed with the solution containing the fibers of the second layer for forming the layer of mixed fibers. The two layers of fibers joined together by the transition layer are saturated with a solution of zirconium oxynitrate which provides a zirconia matrix for the composite when the fibers are sintered together at their nexi.

A composite paper particularly adapted for use as cover sheets in the production of gypsum wallboard, the paper being sufficiently porous to permit better drainage and more rapid drying in the production of the paper, and when applied to the surfaces of a gypsum slurry for forming wallboard, permits less heat to be utilized in the wallboard conversion, thereby saving energy in the board production required for drying the board. The paper comprises in weight percent:(A) cellulosic fibers in an amount of from about 65% to about 90% and preferably having a fiber freeness of from about 300 ml to about 550 ml Canadian Standard Freeness,(B) calcium sulfate as a filler in an amount of from about 10% to about 35%,(C) a binder in an amount from about 1% to about 31/2%,(D) a flocculant in an amount of from about 0.1% to about 0.2%,(E) a buffering agent in an amount from about 0.25% to about 10%,(F) a neutral sizing agent in an effective amount to prevent water penetration,(G) an anionic polymer in an amount suitable for retaining said filler in said paper, and(H) a cationic starch when a succinic anhydride is used as the neutral sizing agent. In a preferred embodiment, after the paper is treated with a neutral internal sizing agent during its formation, it is subsequently treated with a surface sizing agent after formation of the paper, in order to provide certain properties including better adhesion to the gypsum core when used to make gypsum wallboard.
