Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed that includes a fluid inlet in fluid communication with a valve assembly, the valve assembly structured to selectively permit the flow of a motive fluid from the fluid inlet to a fluid driven motor, and wherein the valve assembly further includes a first plunger and a second plunger, one of the first plunger and the second plunger including a plurality of axially incorporated fluid channels, wherein the plunger including a plurality of axially incorporated fluid channels is structured to be selectively driven by an actuator such that as the plunger including a plurality of axially incorporated fluid channels is axially displaced away from a first position the number of axially incorporated fluid channels in fluid communication with the fluid inlet and the fluid driven motor increases.

Abstract: A safety governor operable on failure of the primary governor to arrest operation of the motor with which it is associated. An annular spring-washer, that includes weights supported peripherally distributed about its face, is secured to the drive spindle proximately displaced opposite inlet air passages to the motor. In response to centrifugal forces of rotation, the weights bend or deflect the spring-washer in an axial direction increasingly toward the inlet air passages until, at a predetermined overspeed, passage closure is effected interrupting air supply to the motor.

Abstract: A multi-stage expansion device having bypass capabilities and a variable speed drive is disclosed. In one example, the multi-stage expansion device has a housing within which a first stage, a second stage, and a third stage are housed. The housing may also be configured with internal working fluid passageways to direct a working fluid from the first stage to the second stage and/or from the second stage to the third stage. Each of the stages may include a pair of non-contacting rotors that are mechanically connected to each other and to a power output device such that energy extracted from the working fluid is converted to mechanical work at the output device. In one example, a bypass line is provided to bypass working fluid around the first stage and a bypass line is provided to bypass working fluid around the second stage.

Abstract: The present invention is a system for translating angular rotation between rotary components. The system includes a rotor and a contact wheel. The rotor is rotatable about a rotary axis at a rotary angular velocity. The rotor includes a radial distance which extends between an exterior radius and an interior radius. The contact wheel is rotatable about a contact axis at a contact angular velocity. The contact axis extends in parallel relationship to the radial distance. The contact wheel is disposed in rotational contact with the radial distance. Rotation of one of the rotor and contact wheel is translated to rotate the other one of the rotor and contact wheel by virtue of the rotational contact between the rotor and contact wheel.

Abstract: A compact hydraulic motor 10 in which a pressurized sleeve bearing 20 is coaxial with a commutator 16, all positioned in the output housing 14. The commutator housing provides fluids to a rotary valve plate 48 and to chambers 52 formed between rotating inner member 30 and orbiting outer member 32. The sleeve bearing 20 is pressurized with fluid from the gear set 30, 32 and is in fluid communication with a rear needle bearing 24. The seals are protected from overpressurization through channels 25 and 46 and pressurization valves. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, dual gear sets 80, 82, and 81, 83, (FIG. 7) are positioned within a housing for either series or parallel operation. Fluid directed to the two gear sets by a manifold 112 can run the gear sets in parallel or series in order to provide either high speed low torque or low speed high torque operation.

Abstract: The invention relates to fluid pressure motors and pumps of the type having a gerotor displacement mechanism and an axial type of valve. The casing has inlet and outlet ports and a speed and load control port. The rotary valve has first and second sets of alternately arranged passages with one set having the usual constant fluid communication with the casing outlet port. The other set of valve passages includes some passages in constant fluid communication with the casing inlet port and at least one passage in constant fluid communication with the casing control port. A change over unit has a fluid supply inlet, a fluid exhaust outlet and a control outlet connected to the casing control port referred to above.
