摘要: An exhaust rocker assembly for operating an exhaust valve of an engine during a compression-release engine braking operation. The exhaust rocker assembly comprises an exhaust rocker arm and a self-contained compression brake control module (CBCM) mounted to the exhaust rocker arm and operatively coupled to the exhaust valve for controlling a lift and a phase angle thereof. The CBCM includes a casing, an actuation piston disposed outside the casing so as to define an actuation piston cavity, a reset check valve provided between the casing and the actuation piston, and a compression brake actuator disposed in the casing. The actuation piston reciprocates relative to the casing. The compression brake actuator includes a control piston. The control piston engages the check valve when deactivated so as to unlock the actuation piston cavity and disengages from the check valve when activated so as to lock the actuation piston cavity.

摘要: A rocker assembly for a type III center pivot valvetrain comprises a rocker arm having a cam end, a center pivot bore, and a valve end which includes a first actuator bore and a second actuator bore. The rocker assembly further comprises a cylinder deactivation actuator arranged in the first actuator bore. The cylinder deactivation actuator comprises a hydraulically actuated latch assembly configured to selectively switch between a latched configuration and an unlatched configuration and a mechanical lash-setting sleeve distanced from a travel stop defined within the first actuator bore. The cylinder deactivation actuator further comprises a latch step disposed below the mechanical lash-setting sleeve and extending into the first actuator bore. The hydraulically actuated latch assembly is configured to selectively travel between the travel stop and the latch step when the hydraulically actuated latch assembly is in the latched configuration.

摘要: A hydraulic capsule can comprise a hollow capsule body for setting the location of a plunger, a latch set alignable with a latch groove, and a latch-setting insert. The plunger can be configured to push the latch set towards the latch-setting insert. A lost motion spring can be incorporated into the hydraulic capsule, or the lost motion spring can be installed in capsule bore where the hydraulic capsule is mounted. Either a hydraulic capsule or an electromagnetic capsule or a drop in assembly can be installed in a capsule mount in a rocker arm to form a type III cam-actuated rocker arm. The rocker arm can comprise a cam side arm and a valve side arm. The rocker arm can be configured to balance a moment of inertia of the deactivation components. Twisting forces on the cam can be counteracted.

摘要: An engine braking system includes engine braking actuators for adjusting exhaust valve timings to engine braking timings in a cylinder-number braking mode. The system further includes an engine braking controller coupled to a control switch that produces a request indicating a requested cylinder-number braking mode. The engine braking controller is structured to transition exhaust valves to the engine braking timings, determine a control term to adjust intake air pressure for varying a braking power of the engine, and to adjust geometry of an exhaust turbine based on the control term. An adjusted speed of a compressor rotated by the exhaust turbine provides a change to intake air pressure that adjusts the braking power of the engine. Different levels of braking power are provided within different cylinder-number braking modes.

摘要: Function of a compression release brake system of a compression ignited engine with a plurality of cylinders in a motor vehicle is checked by driving a crank shaft of the engine to rotate at a constant speed without injection of fuel into the cylinders while for each cylinder, for the compression release brake system in an inactive state and then in an active state, measuring the torque to be applied for maintaining said speed in a position of said crank shaft where the torque would be influenced by the behavior of that cylinder by a correctly functioning action of said compression release brake system in an active state. The torque values obtained for each cylinder for the compression release brake system in inactive and active state are compared, and the function of the compression release brake system for each individual cylinder of the engine is determined based on the comparison.

摘要: A lash compensator for a valve train component of an internal combustion engine is provided that includes an end-cap arranged within a reverse-spring control valve assembly of an axially moveable piston. The piston has a first reservoir and an inner radial wall configured with a through-aperture. The reverse-spring control valve assembly has a control valve housing, a bias spring, an end-cap, and a closing body. The end-cap is configured with a cupped end; an inner side of the cupped end receives a second lower end of the bias spring, and an outer side of the cupped end engages an upper portion of the closing body. The end-cap minimizes or eliminates the variation in flow resistance caused by a variation in end-coil geometry of the second lower end of the bias spring.

摘要: A compression-release brake system is provided that includes a lost motion exhaust rocker assembly, an actuation piston, and a reset device. The actuation piston includes an actuation piston body that is slidably received by the rocker arm to define a piston cavity in the rocker arm and is movable between piston retracted and extended positions. The actuation piston is configured to be operatively associated with the exhaust valve to permit unseating of the exhaust valve from the seated state. An actuation piston check valve is configured to move between closed and open positions to permit hydraulic fluid flow through an actuation piston communication port to the piston cavity. The reset device includes a reset check valve and a reset pressure control spring for applying a biasing force to the reset check valve to urge the reset check valve toward an open position.
