Abstract: An apparatus is provided for modifying a crankshaft angle of an internal combustion engine (ICE). An energy converter is configured to be connected to a crankshaft of the ICE. An energy storage unit is configured to deliver energy to the energy converter when the energy converter acts as a motor, and to store energy output from the energy converter when the energy converter acts as a generator. The controller is configured to calculate a current ideal crankshaft angle, calculate a current slip angle using an output of a crankshaft angle sensor, activate the energy converter as a motor to increase the current crankshaft angle when the current slip angle is greater than a predetermined upper threshold value, and activate the energy converter as a generator to decrease the current crankshaft angle when the current slip angle is less than a predetermined lower threshold value.

Abstract: A first generator set may store, in a memory of the first generator set, data representing local attributes associated with an engine. The first generator set may receive, via a network switch of the first generator set, remote data representing remote attributes associated with a second generator set. The first generator set may cause the first controller to update, based on the remote data, the local data in the memory to synchronize the local attributes with the remote attributes. The first generator set may transmit, via the network switch, an indication that the local data was successfully updated in the memory.

Abstract: In a combined power system, a rotating shaft of a rotating electric machine includes a hollow cylindrical outer shaft and an inner shaft inserted into the hollow interior part of the outer shaft. Abstract: A standby generator includes a standby housing defining a cavity and an internal combustion engine. The engine includes an engine block including a cylinder comprising a piston, an engine housing at least partially covering the engine block, and a crankshaft configured to rotate about a vertical crankshaft axis in response to movement by the piston. The standby generator also includes an alternator configured to generate alternating current electrical power, a controller comprising a rectifier configured to convert the alternating current to a direct current and an inverter configured to convert the direct current to a clean alternating current electrical power, and a transfer switch configured to receive the clean alternating current electrical power from the controller and at least one of grid, solar, or battery power, and configured to supply power to an electrical load. The internal combustion engine, the alternator, and the controller are positioned within the cavity.
