A distribution type fuel injection pump in which a control sleeve is provided for changing a time of opening a cut off port which is shiftable on a plunger reciprocating synchronously with rotation, and an injection quantity is controlled by adjusting a position of the control sleeve by a tension lever that receives an operation of a governor spring and a centrifugal force governing member, the improved pump in which a piston connected to a lever for determining a maximum shifting position of the tension lever is disposed in a sliding hole, and this piston is energized by a return spring, and the return spring side of this piston is made to be a low pressure chamber and an opposite return spring side is made to be a high pressure chamber. A servo valve is provided in the piston and this servo valve is displaced so as to balance the fuel pressure in the pump chamber and the pressing force of the servo spring and the fuel pressure in the high pressure chamber is controlled. As a result, the piston is caused to move by following the servo valve, and the lever for determining the maximum shifting position of the tension lever is moved and a correction of the full load injection quantity against the rpm of the engine is carried out. The setting force of the servo spring that energizes the servo valve is changed by the pressure applied to a pressure responding member, and a shifting characteristics of the piston by the servo valve is changed so that a correction of a full load injection quantity by the atmospheric pressure and the boost pressure is simultaneously carried out.

A method and apparatus for controlling a Diesel engine by limiting the amount of fuel to be admitted to the engine in dependence on engine speed and on the air mass flow rate. The invention provides a primary set of stored data interrelating these variables. The primary data set is used to generate a set-point value for the position of a movable stop member which limits the mechanical travel of the fuel control rack in the fuel injection pump; the control rack is also subject to the action of a mechanical speed governor. Additional corrections of the maximum amount of fuel are made on the basis of air temperature and fuel temperature. Still further refinements include taking into account exhaust gas temperature and engine starting conditions. The final corrected set-point signal is then compared with the output from a position indicator which is attached to the stop member. A servo-controlled element corrects the position of the stop member until the error indications are minimized in a closed loop, feedback control circuit.

A fuel control device for an internal combustion engine employing a fuel mixture preparation system in which the amount of fuel is set at will and the amount of combustion air is adjusted automatically. In order to provide sufficient air during abrupt and rapid actuations of the fuel control lever, there is provided a hydraulic differentiating mechanism which senses rapid displacements of the fuel control lever and which temporarily opens a channel leading from a source of high hydraulic pressure directly to the servo motor that pivots the air throttle, thereby causing additional opening of the air throttle and an increased rate of air flow. The high pressure channel is closed gradually after the occurrence of the abrupt fuel change.

A mixture control device for a fuel-injected internal combustion engine in which an air flow meter in the induction tube is associated with a slide valve which opens and closes a fuel metering orifice. A differential pressure valve is connected across the metering orifice and one chamber of the differential pressure valve is connected to a servo-motor which moves the main fuel control rod of the fuel injection system. When the amount of fuel delivered to the engine is different from that metered out by the orifice, the pressure in the differential valve changes, causing a temporary admission of pressurized fuel to the servo-motor, which adjusts the position of the main fuel control rod until equilibrium is re-established. Several embodiments are presented, including exhaust gas recycling.

The present invention relates to control devices and can most advantageously be used in load control devices for turbo-supercharged diesel engines operating over a wide range of operating conditions when frequent unsteady periods of operation caused by variations in the load take place. This control device comprises a crankshaft speed measuring mechanism, a pilot valve, a servomotor with a tailrod, a passage providing hydraulic connection of the pilot valve with the servomotor. A servomotor tailrod stroke limiter is mounted within said passage and comprises a stationary fixed casing, a sleeve and a plunger, both movable with respect to the stationary fixed casing and with respect to each other. The sleeve is connected to a pressure sensor, while the plunger, to the tail-rod of the servomotor. Such a constructional arrangement enables a separate control of the load as a function of air supply and fuel supply.
