Abstract:
The invention is a method and apparatus for significantly improving the performance of a reciprocating pump by delivering the pumping fluid at a desired pressure and flow rate with minimal flow fluctuations. The compressibility of the pumping fluid directly effects volumetric flow rate and mass flow rate. The method includes the step of sensing various pump parameters related to said compressibility and adjusting the pumping speed to make appropriate accommodations. In particular, the compressibility of the pumping fluid is effected by the adiabatic heating of the pumping fluid during compression, variations in pumping fluid density, leaks in the check valves of cylinder/piston seals and the primary and secondary switching losses in the fluid flow occurring when the primary and secondary pistons reverse direction.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of the invention may overcome a higher than normal starting torque for in a reciprocating, electric motor driven air compressor for a vehicle. A detection component can be configured to detect a stall condition for a reciprocating compressor based on a force from compressed air being compressed into a reservoir of the reciprocating compressor. Based upon the detected stall condition, a controller can reverse direction or increase torque to alleviate the stall condition. In the reverse direction mode, the controller component can change a direction of a piston rotation. In the torque increase mode, the controller increases a number of poles for the motor, a line voltage, or a volt/hertz.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for analyzing the operating condition of a machine, such as a reciprocating compressor (10), is provided. The method comprises testing for fluid flow across the closed suction and discharge valves (30-33), as well as leakage across the piston (16), when the machine is in a non-operating condition. The test apparatus may be removable attached externally to the machine by connection to the Kiene head end indicator cock (22) and the crank end indicator cock (24) or the apparatus may be built in internally of the machine.
Abstract:
A liquid feeding device includes a primary plunger pump; a secondary plunger pump connected downstream; a check valve provided between the primary plunger pump and the secondary plunger pump; a primary pressure sensor that detects a pressure in the pump chamber of the primary plunger pump; a liquid feeding control part configured to control operations of the primary plunger pump and the secondary plunger pump; and a liquid leakage detector configured to detect liquid leakage in the check valve based on a change in an output value of the primary pressure sensor during the waiting time. The liquid feeding control part is configured to control the operation of the primary plunger pump so that a waiting time, where the primary plunger pump stops without operating, is present while a discharge operation by the secondary plunger pump is performed after a suction by the primary plunger pump is completed.

Systems and methods of the invention relate to diagnosing a compressor. A method may include monitoring a pressure of compressed air within a reservoir of a compressor, actuating an unloader valve of the compressor, and detecting a leak condition of the compressor through recognition of a change in the monitored pressure of the compressed air within the reservoir during a time period in which the unloader valve is actuated. A system is also disclosed including an engine, a compressor operatively connected to the engine, and a controller that is operable to determine a condition of the compressor.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of the invention relate to diagnosing a compressor. A method may include operating a compressor to compress air from a first stage compressor into an intermediate stage reservoir, to deliver air from the intermediate stage reservoir to a second stage compressor, and to further compress the air in the second stage compressor into a primary reservoir, monitoring an intermediate stage pressure of the intermediate stage reservoir, and identifying a condition of the compressor through recognition of a change in the monitored intermediate stage pressure during a time period in which the compressor is operated. A vehicle system is also provided including an engine, a compressor operatively connected to the engine, and a controller that is operable to identify a condition of the compressor.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of the invention relate to removing fluid from a compressor to mitigate condensation accumulated for a compressor. A controller can be configured to actuate a drain valve coupled to an aftercooler of a compressor and actuate a check valve to isolate air pressure of the aftercooler from a reservoir of the compressor. Through control of the drain valve of the aftercooler and the check valve, the controller removes fluid from the aftercooler to facitliate thermal management of a compressor.
