Abstract: A system and method for preventing back-drive in a braking system for a rotary actuator. The braking system comprises a housing and split cam design. A driving cam located within the housing is associated with an upstream side of the braking system. The driving cam is configured to rotate when a torque is applied to the upstream side. The braking system has a wedging cam and a plurality of cylindrical rollers. The wedging cam located within the housing and is associated with a downstream side of the braking system. The wedging cam is configured to react and prevent back-drive motion when torque is applied to the downstream side. The plurality of cylindrical rollers is positioned between the wedging cam and the housing. The plurality of cylindrical rollers is configured to wedge between a surface of the wedging cam and the housing when the torque is applied to the downstream side.

Abstract: Prosthetic devices and, more particularly, modular myoelectric prosthesis components and related methods, are described. In one embodiment, a hand for a prosthetic limb may comprise a rotor-motor; a transmission, comprising a differential roller screw; a linkage coupled to the transmission; and at least one finger coupled to the linkage. In one embodiment, a component part of a wrist of a prosthetic limb may comprise an exterior-rotor motor, a planetary gear transmission, a clutch, and a cycloid transmission. In one embodiment, an elbow for a prosthetic limb may comprise an exterior-rotor motor, and a transmission comprising a planetary gear transmission, a non-backdrivable clutch, and a screw.

Abstract: A force-shunting device including a tube defining a main axis and an inner wall, a first member sliding within the tube, a primary leg arranged obliquely, attached to the first member and including a primary pad in frictional contact with the inner wall, such that, when an external force is applied in a first direction on the first member, the primary leg rubs, or grips by mechanical camming, against the inner wall, the tube thus reacting all or part of the external force, the device including a second member mounted within the tube, sliding along the main axis and securely provided with a driving element of the primary pad so as to reduce the friction on the inner wall, to unprime the rubbing or mechanical camming.

Abstract: A linear actuator is provided. In one embodiment, the actuator includes a motor, a gearbox, and a linear actuation device. The motor serves as a primary input to provide a rotational input to the gearbox, which generates a corresponding rotational output. The linear actuation device converts the rotational output of the gearbox into a linear motion for driving a load in a linear direction. The actuator includes an override system as a secondary input. The override system may be operated to drive the gearbox in the event that the motor becomes non-operational. Anti-back-driving devices may be provided to prevent back-driving of the motor and of the override system. In the context of a resource extraction system, the motor may be an electric motor powered by subsea electronic control system. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: An electro-mechanical actuator for a window lift mechanism including a plurality of motors for driving an output shaft. The actuator may be incorporated into a window lift mechanism including a dual rack and pinion assembly, for driving the pinions along the racks. According to another aspect of the invention there is provided a variety of anti-back-drive mechanisms, e.g. clutches. A clutch according to one embodiment includes locking pawls that resist back-drive. In another embodiment, locking cams rotate relative to a carrier to resist back-drive. An actuator consistent with the invention may incorporate an impact mechanism including a flexible carrier. The carrier flexes to prevent impact forces at an output gear train from coupling to an input gear train.
