    Abstract: A modular high precision gear box arrangement includes first and second gear boxes. The first gear box has a first rotatable hollow wheel, a second fixed hollow wheel and at least one double planet having a first planet and a second planet arranged on a planet shaft. The first planet meshes with the first hollow wheel, the second planet meshes with the second hollow wheel, and the first hollow wheel is coupled with an output. The second gear box includes a fixed hollow wheel that is the second hollow wheel of the first gear box and at least one planet that is the second planet of the at least one double planet of the first gear box. The second gear box further includes an input for driving the planet shaft, wherein the input is arranged centrically or eccentrically to a central rotation axis of the gear box arrangement.

    Abstract: Modular gearbox assemblies, modular gearbox kits, and methods for assembling and for using a modular gearbox assembly are disclosed. A modular gearbox assembly is disclosed which includes one or more gear modules each comprising a gear train encased by a module housing. The gear train includes intermeshed gear elements that provide a predetermined gear ratio. The module housing has one or more coupling elements projecting radially outward therefrom. A gearbox housing stows therein the gear module(s). The gearbox housing has an input coupler for attaching to a driving mechanism and transmitting power output therefrom to the gear module(s). The gearbox housing also has an output coupler for attaching to a driven mechanism and transmitting thereto modified power output from the gear module(s). The gearbox housing has one or more protrusions projecting radially inward therefrom that mate with the coupling element(s) to thereby attach the gearbox housing to the gear module(s).

    Abstract: A joint may have a multi-stage planetary gearbox between the stationary housing and the rotary housing. To accommodate different gear ratios, the rotary housing may be joined to the stationary housing by a releasable attachment. This allows portions of the planetary gearbox to be replaced so that, for instance, the last stage may be chosen as either a simple or compound differential planetary stage. To allow for different capacities, a quotient of a sum of all teeth of a sun gear of a stage and of the ring gear with which the planetary gears of the stage mesh to both the number three and the number four yields an integer. In this way, the stage may be provided with either three or four planetary gears. The gearbox may have a ring gear common to a plurality of simple planetary stages. Where the final stage is a simple planetary stage, the carrier may be provided with a flange extending around, and bearing mounted to, the common ring gear. To reduce weight and increase robustness, the planetary gears of a stage are retained on their carrier by a bumper ring provided between carriers. An angle sensor may be provided between the stationary and rotary housings.

    Abstract: Transmission series with a variable gear stage (variation stage) consisting of a pair of gearwheels. Within the series, the variation stage encompasses a range of permissible sizes (B.sub.i =B.sub.1 . . . B.sub.m) which in each case have the same centre distances (A.sub.i =A.sub.1 . . . A.sub.m). The same range of permissible transmission ratios (I.sub.i =I.sub.1 . . . I.sub.n) is provided for all sizes, so that the centre distances (A.sub.i) and the transmission ratios (I.sub.i) form a matrix (M). The number of components required is substantially reduced by correlating the graduation of the centre distances (A.sub.i) and the graduation of the transmission ratios (I.sub.i) in such a way that the same gearwheel is used in a variation stage sequence (S) comprising a number of variation stage sizes.

    Abstract: A control system for a power transmission includes a plurality of sequentially arranged speed ratio modules each having friction means responsive to a single signal for establishing either direct or reduction drive across the respective module, the control system including separate valves for selectively communicating the single signal to each respective module in response to governor means coupled with an output drive component of the transmission.
