摘要: A differential assembly includes a differential housing, two side gears, at least one output hub, and at least one pinion gear assembly. When a torque input is provided to the first side gear, eccentric contact surfaces on the first side gear and the output hub contact under compression forces, and compression forces between the outer cylindrical surface of the first side gear and an inner cylindrical surface of the differential housing and between the outer cylindrical surface of the first output hub and the inner cylindrical surface of the differential housing cause frictional forces between the differential housing and the first side gear and between the differential housing and the first output hub to provide a torque bias to the differential assembly. In some embodiments, the differential housing includes a second output hub and eccentric contact surfaces on the second side gear and the second output hub.

This invention relates to providing improved torque limiting systems that employ tolerance rings for controlling transmitting power between a single power-input shaft and one or more power-output shafts, which can protect mechanical equipment and drivetrains from damage by mechanical overload. Relating to motor vehicle differentials, the present invention can control differentiation between two power-output shafts, or drive shafts by providing friction internal to said differential and limit “undesirable” slip or differentiation between wheels, as might occur when one wheel encounters a low-traction condition, providing a limited-slip differential.

摘要: A vehicle differential apparatus is provided with: a differential case rotatable around a rotation axis in which a first shaft insertion hole is formed along a direction perpendicular to the rotation axis, a pair of side gears, a pinion gear meshing with the paired side gears in which a second shaft insertion hole is formed in an axial center portion of the pinion gear, and a pinion shaft including an insertion end portion inserted in the first shaft insertion hole of the differential case and a pinion gear support portion inserted in the second shaft insertion hole of the pinion gear to rotatably support the pinion gear. The pinion gear is supported so as to be movable in the rotation axis direction by a meshing reaction force generated from a meshing engagement with the pair of side gears.

The differential gear assembly includes a first sun gear and a second sun gear coaxially aligned with each other; a first set of planetary gears in mating engagement with the first sun gear; and a second set of planetary gears in mating engagement with the second sun gear. The first and second sets of planetary gears are in mating engagement with each other. The differential gear assembly also includes a first set of friction members, each of which faces a respective one of axial ends of the first set of planetary gears; and a second set of friction members, each of which faces a respective one of axial ends of the second set of planetary gears. The differential gear assembly further includes a first body connecting at least a plurality of said first set of friction members together, and a second body connecting at least a plurality of said first set of friction members together.

摘要: The drive train of a truck is modified by the addition of a single changeable pair of mating gears positioned between the output shaft of the transmission and the intermediate gear train that drives the ring/bull gear fixed to the drive-axle differential for a first set of drive wheels. One gear of this changeable pair is releasably connected to the distal end of the output shaft of the transmission, while the mating gear is releasably connected to the input of the intermediate gear train of the ring/bull gear for single drive-axle trucks or to the housing of a high-bias drive-shaft differential having co-axial output shafts for tandem drive-axle trucks. These changeable gear pairs are preferably maintained in stock in predetermined ratios so that the drive ratio of the truck can be quickly, easily, and inexpensively altered by the selection of an appropriate gear pair to accommodate different expected operating conditions.

When one of the driving wheel slips, the period of the gear ratio fluctuation between the pinion and side gears involves at least two pitches, thus each period of the gear ratio fluctuation involves a group of teeth, and the number of teeth involved in each group are corresponding to the number of pitches involved in each period. Each pinion has an odd number of groups of teeth, and the group number in side gears is a multiple of the number of pinions. The differential is particularly suitable for off-road vehicles, tippers and wheeled civil engineering machinery.
