A method for the in vitro diagnosis of an invasive fungal infection by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The method involves, providing a liquid biological sample from a mammal, said biological sample containing, in particular, proteins and/or lipids and/or salts and/or polysaccharides and/or oligosaccharides and/or monosaccharides capable of forming complexes with said proteins and/or lipids and/or salts; treating said sample with biological liquid so as to extract said polysaccharides and/or oligosaccharides and/or monosaccharides; determining, by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, whether or not there is present among said extracted polysaccharides, oligosaccharides and/or monosaccharides, at least one given compound of interest coming from said fungal microorganism and chosen from polysaccharides, oligosaccharides and monosaccharides; and deducing, if said given compound of interest is present in said sample, that said mammal is suffering from an invasive fungal infection.

摘要:
A method and system for rapidly detecting Candida on the skin of a host, such as an infant with diaper rash, is provided. The method includes contacting a dermal sample with a colorant that exhibits a certain spectral response (e.g., color change) in the presence of Candida. For example, the colorant may change from a first color to a second color, from colorless to a color, or from a color to colorless. The colorant is typically capable of differentiating between Candida (e.g., Candida albicans) and other microorganisms commonly associated with diaper rash, such as S. aureus and E. coli. Thus, when a dermal sample is placed into contact with the colorant, the color change may simply be observed to determine whether the infection is caused by Candida. If the color change occurs to a certain extent (e.g., from yellow to bright red), it may be determined that the test sample contains Candida. Likewise, if a color change occurs to a lesser extent (e.g., from yellow to faint orange) or not at all, it may be determined that the dermal sample contains other microorganisms (e.g., S. aureus or E. coli), no infection is present, or that the infection is simply due to other causes. Regardless, it will become readily apparent whether or not treatment for Candida is needed.

The present invention relates to a method and a means of diagnosing Candida infection. In particular the present invention relates to a method of diagnosing Candida infection by measuring the levels of antibody to Candida cytoplasmic antigen present in a biological sample taken from a subject at risk of, or suspected to be suffering from a Candida infection.

There is provided a lateral flow assay device for detecting the presence or quantity of an analyte residing in a test sample where the lateral flow assay device has a porous membrane in liquid communication with a conjugate pad and a wicking pad. The conjugate pad has a gold colloid-containing detection probe. The porous membrane has a detection zone where an immobilized first capture reagent configured to bind to at least a portion of the analyte and analyte-conjugate complexes to generate a detection signal. The control zone is located downstream from the detection zone on the porous membrane and has a second capture reagent immobilized within the control zone. The conjugate pad is located upstream from the detection zone, and has detection probes with specific binding members for the analyte. A sample containing an analyte is deposited on the conjugate pad, interacts with the detection probes, and moves toward the control zone for detection.

The present invention relates to a method and a means of diagnosing Candida infection. In particular, the present invention relates to a method of diagnosing Candida infection comprising the steps of obtaining a biological sample from a subject at risk of, or suspected to be suffering from, Candida infection, contacting the sample with a mannose depleted antigen composition comprising a soluble cytoplasmic antigen preparation comprising antigens of molecular weight 55 kDa, 30 kDa and 20 kDa and detecting the antigen/antibody reaction.
