摘要:
A method of producing a security document or article including a substrate (100), which is transparent at least to visible light, and a diffractive optical microstructure (112). The method includes applying an opacifying layer (102) to at least one surface of the transparent substrate (100). An area of the opacifying layer (102) is exposed to laser radiation (108) to ablate apertures (110) in selected portions of the opacifying layer (102), thereby forming a diffractive optical microstructure (112) on the surface of the substrate (100). The laser radiation may be patterned prior to exposing the opacifying layer (102), for example by passing the radiation through a mask (104). Alternatively, a focussed or collimated laser beam (206) may be directed onto the selected portions of the opacifying layer (102). Laser radiation may be directed onto the opacifying layer (102) either directly, or through the transparent substrate (100). Security documents or articles made in accordance with the method are also provided.

This invention discloses a method of producing, in a solid transparent material (3), a hologram of an object; the method includes the steps of: developing a three-dimensional mathematical model of an electro-magnetic field emanating from the object, the field producing an image of the object; computing a corresponding three-dimensional set of points, light scattered from which reconstructs the field; and focusing a pulsed laser beam into the solid transparent material onto each of the points sequentially, the beam being capable, when focused, of causing optical breakdown in the solid transparent material.

A method for production of laser-induced damage images, which are able to change their optical characteristics depending on bopresight allocation and which are looked like iridescent images laying out white light incident upon them. These images are created by laser-induced damages of special space form. These damages are produced by creation of two areas (the first and the second) surrounding the pre-set points: the first area is essentially large than the second area, having form like desirable damage. The pulse laser radiation creates under critical electron density in the first area and initiates the breakdown in the second area.

A packaging tape (3) which comprises a polymer film is used as a holographic data carrier. The packaging tape (3) is set up for the storage of holographic information. Holographic information can be put into the packaging tape (3) with the aid of a writing device (4), before an object (1) is packaged by using the packaging tape (3), but also afterwards.

Processes for producing a holographic material wherein the holographic image is formed on a polished, substantially smooth surface of a printing element and then transferred the holographic image to a substrate. A coating is applied to the smooth surface of the printing element to provide a coated surface, the coated surface is embossed or engraved to provide the holographic image, and the holographic image is then transferred to a substrate via a bonding material, thereby producing the holographic material. The holographic material may be used to provide a decorative cover for an object or item, such as a floral grouping or a potted plant.

A system for forming holographic pixels on the surface of a workpiece is disclosed. The system comprises a laser generating a laser beam; a beam splitter dividing the laser beam into a first beam and a second beam; a controller providing as output at least one control signal; and at least one beam deflector receptive of the first and second laser beams guiding the first and second laser beams along different paths to a prescribed pixel location on the surface of the workpiece, thereby combining the first and second laser beams at a prescribed azimuthal direction and included angle. At least one beam deflector is receptive of the at least one control signal thereby controllably deflecting at least one of the first laser beam and the second laser beam to the prescribed pixel location.

A method for patterning a layer on a substrate can include projecting coherent radiation toward a reflector surface so that the coherent radiation is reflected off the reflector surface to provide a holographic projection of a desired image wherein the reflector surface includes information that corresponds to an inverse of the holographic projection of the desired image. The substrate including the layer can be maintained in the path of the reflected radiation so that the holographic projection is projected onto the layer. Related systems are also discussed.

A method for increasing the authentication effect of a verification hologram to be affixed to a protected document includes laser etching individualized indicia into the reflective layer of each hologram produced en masse on a moving, continuous web. The laser is finely focused and guided by a computer which records the data used to form the selected indicia, such data being referenced for comparison to provide verification of authenticity upon presentation by a bearer. In one embodiment, the data used to create the indicia is generated by a computer program which may include a random number generator.

An apparatus for producing an optically variable film includes a laser configured to emit a beam, a telescoping lens section having a first lens and a second lens spaced apart by a first distance and an interferometer configured to direct the beam toward a workpiece. The laser may be operated at a predetermined power level and the first and second lenses are sized and spaced relative to one another to direct the beam onto the workpiece at about 200-230 dots per inch. The workpiece may include a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) layer configured to be ablated by the beam, forming a microstructure in the surface of the layer. The microstructure may be randomized and used to present non-chroma visual effects.
