A method for monitoring a control system is disclosed comprising a plurality of control units, preferably for an optical measurement device or observation device. In a method of this type, it is provided that at least one control unit with master capability is incorporated in the communication between the control station and the rest of the control units and communicates with at least one of the control units for purposes of detecting status data and communicates with the control station for purposes of conveying the detected status data. In this way, polling for determining the current status is not the exclusive responsibility of the control station but, rather, can be taken over—at least partially or so as to be limited to determined processes—by the control unit with master capability enabled for this purpose. A control system for accomplishing the method is also disclosed.

A multi-type air conditioner address setting method and address setting device for automatically setting an address with a simple structure. A dummy address sent from an exterior device is stored in an interior device. The interior device determines whether the interior device itself is operating in a designated operation mode. When the interior device is operating in the designated operation mode, the dummy address is set as an actual address. When an address request signal is sent from the exterior device, the set address is sent back thereto.

Upon detecting that a given record entry of the given module has been set, from the current state information with respect to the given sub-module is requested and received, and a corresponding cache entry is updated in the cache with the current state information.

The invention relates to an arrangement for running a system bus in a device such as a programmable controller. The arrangement includes a number of card slots interconnected via a system bus with data and control lines, and via address lines. A number of functional units may be plugged into the card slots. One or more of the functional units may be adapted for read and/or write access (e.g., a CPU component), and each functional unit so-configured includes an arbiter capable of managing the system bus. At system startup, one of the arbiters is activated to manage the system bus while the other arbiters remain passive. The functional units may advantageously be plugged into any of the card slots; that is, there is no need to have a particular card slot dedicated to running the system bus.
