Abstract: A method for surveying a body of water includes providing a plurality of vehicles to a body of water. Each the plurality of vehicles includes a vehicle body, an electric-propulsion motor system mounted on the vehicle body, a rechargeable battery, at least one sonar device attached to the vehicle body, and a first communication device. The method also includes submerging each of the plurality of vehicles in the body of water, surveying an area, using the at least one sonar device, to map the body of water and to determine a location of each of the plurality of vehicles, and determining, based on the surveying, that a target object is detected within the area. The method also includes resurfacing each of the plurality of vehicles and transferring data, using the first communication device, between at least two of the plurality of vehicles at the surface of the body of water.

Abstract: A method for controlling propulsion of a marine vessel powered by a marine propulsion system including a plurality of propulsion devices includes operating at least one proximity sensor to determine a relative position of the marine vessel with respect to an object, the at least one proximity sensor having a field of view (FOV), identifying a trigger condition for expanding the FOV of the at least one proximity sensor, and determining whether the object will be sufficiently captured based on recent vessel angle data of the marine vessel. Upon determining that the object will not be sufficiently captured, thrust and/or steering position of at least one of the plurality of propulsion devices is controlled to expand the FOV of the at least one proximity sensor by inducing a roll movement or a pitch movement of the marine vessel.

Abstract: A gyroscopic roll stabilizer comprises a gimbal having a support frame and enclosure configured to maintain a below-ambient pressure, a flywheel assembly including a flywheel and flywheel shaft, one or more bearings for rotatably mounting the flywheel inside the enclosure, a motor for rotating the flywheel, and bearing cooling system for cooling the bearings supporting the flywheel. The bearing cooling system enables heat generated by the bearings to be transferred through the flywheel shaft to a heat sink disposed within a cavity in the end of the flywheel shaft, or to a liquid coolant circulating within the cavity.

Abstract: Various embodiments involve controlling rotational maneuvers of a robotic vehicle (e.g., an unmanned aerial vehicle or UAV) so that commanded changes in vehicle attitude (e.g., pitch, roll, and/or yaw) may be performed as rotations about a center of sensing of a sensor instead of the vehicle's center of gravity. Maneuvers performed according to various embodiments may reduce or eliminate translational movements in the sensor output that occur when the robotic vehicle rotates about the center of gravity and the sensor is mounted some distance from the center of gravity.

Abstract: A system for a marine vessel operating in a body of water includes a trimmable marine device coupled to and movable with respect to the vessel and an actuator that raises and lowers the marine device. A control module is in signal communication with the actuator. A GPS receiver determines a current and/or predicted global position of the vessel, and a processor accesses a memory storing bathymetry data and retrieves a water depth corresponding to the vessel's current and/or predicted global position. The control module compares the water depth to a depth of the marine device based on the marine device's current position. The actuator raises the marine device in response to the control module determining that the water depth is not enough to accommodate the depth of the marine device at the current position without potential collision between the marine device and the body of water's bottom.

Abstract: An adjustable surf wake system can enhance a wake formed by a watercraft travelling through water. A rider control device can enable a rider to control the wake of the watercraft while riding the wake, such as for wake surfing. The rider can adjust the speed of the watercraft, can adjust the height of the wake, and/or can change the watercraft between a surf-left configuration and a surf-right configuration. The rider control device can include a position sensor. A drone can position a camera based on the position sensor of the rider control device for filming the rider.

Abstract: A marine vessel stabilizer and control including a fin having a stem extending into the hull. An arm is connected to the stem and extends towards a connector which is connected to a rod. A housing is connected to another end of the rod and a screw passes through the housing. A motor is connected to the screw and configured to rotate to rotate the fin. A controller is connected to the motor, a speed sensor, a roll sensor and a fin position sensor such that a control signal can be calculated and the position of the fin can be determined to reduce roll of the vessel both when making headway and when at rest (zero speed). When the vessel is at rest, the fin is be configured to rotate through maximum angles greater than 15 degrees from either side of a neutral position.

Abstract: In an apparatus for controlling posture of a small boat having a hull and an even number of outboard motors mounted side by side on a stern of the hull, each equipped with a propeller driven by an engine and a throttle actuator adjusting a throttle valve opening of the engine, an inclinometer is installed in one of the outboard motors that produces an output indicating inclination of the hull relative to a vertical axis around a roll axis. It is determined whether the hull inclines to port or starboard from the output of the inclinometer and when it does, operation of the throttle actuators of the outboard motors are controlled on a side determined to incline downward to increase engine speed, while controlling operation of the throttle actuator of the outboard motor on a side determined to incline upward to decrease the engine speed.
