An oscillator device and a transmission and reception device that are usable for implementing high output and wide-band modulation and that can reduce the manufacturing cost. An oscillation circuit and a frequency control circuit including microstrip lines are formed on an oscillation circuit substrate. A TM010 mode resonator including resonator electrodes are formed on a dielectric substrate along with excitation electrodes to form a dielectric resonator chip. One of the resonator electrodes is fixed to a land of the oscillation circuit substrate with bumps, and also, the excitation electrodes are fixed to the microstrip with bumps. With this configuration, the TM010 mode resonator can be excited by using the excitation electrodes, and also, the dielectric resonator chip can be miniaturized and the manufacturing cost can be decreased accordingly.

The tuning device comprises a tuning element in the form of a cylindrical shaft, an inner sleeve coaxially around the tuning element and mating therewith by corresponding sets of threads, and an outer sleeve coaxially around the inner sleeve, and mating therewith by corresponding sets of threads. The outer surface of the outer sleeve may also include threads for mating with threads of a dielectric resonator enclosure. Rotation of the tuning element, inner sleeve and/or outer sleeve can move the tuning element in proximity to a dielectric resonator, which provides the resonant frequency tuning effect. The tuning element, inner and outer sleeves are made of temperature expanding material to cause the tuning element to move in proximity of the dielectric resonator with temperature changes to provide temperature stability to the resonant frequency.

A low-cost low noise block down-converter for use in a receiver in a satellite broadcasting system is provided. The down-converter includes a high-performance self-oscillating mixer made from a MESFET with a dielectric resonator for providing feedback. The self-oscillating mixer functions as both an oscillator and a mixer and, thus, reduces the cost and number of components to manufacture the down-converter.

A voltage-controlled oscillator according to the present invention comprises: a transistor, where the drain electrode is grounded, the gate electrode is connected to a resonator whose resonant frequency is adjustable according to a voltage applied to a voltage-dependent capacitance diode electromagnetically coupled with the resonator, an output signal is output from the source electrode; a resistor connected in gate bias circuit or source voltage supply circuit for detecting a low-frequency noise component generated in the transistor, where the detected low-frequency noise component is amplified and fed back to the voltage-dependent capacitance diode so as to cancel a phase-noise component generated in the voltage-controlled oscillator. The above-described voltage-controlled oscillator may be further provided with a reference crystal oscillator to which the voltage-controlled oscillator is phase-locked. Thus, a microwave voltage-controlled oscillator excellent in phase-noise characteristics of the oscillated frequency is accomplished though there is employed a GaAs FET which is not good in a low-frequency noise characteristic.
