    摘要: A wave amplitude modulator for modulating a transmitted electromagnetic wave includes one or multiple self-gated capacitively coupled pair(s) of electron layers such as semiconductor or semimetal layers. Two electrical contacts are placed to each layer of electrons of the self-gated pair(s), and a power source is electrically connected to them. The power source, by varying the voltage applied between layers of electrons, tunes the electron density thereof, thereby adjusting the optical conductivity thereof, and the change in the optical conductivity of the layers of electrons causes an amplitude modulation of the transmitted electromagnetic wave passing through the capacitively coupled layers of electrons.

    摘要: Systems and methods are provided for generating an amplitude modulation signal to a switchmode power amplifier. A DC to DC switch is configured to receive a DC input voltage and to provide a DC output voltage. A low dropout regulator is configured to provide the amplitude modulation signal according to a modulation control signal received by the low dropout regulator. A control circuit is configured to establish a nominal operating power level for the power amplifier via the amplitude modulation signal and to maintain a minimum voltage difference between the DC output voltage and the low dropout regulator output. A modulator control circuit is configured to provide the modulation control signal to the low dropout regulator. The modulator control circuit provides the transition from a high amplitude to a low amplitude and a transition from the low amplitude to the high amplitude at configurable first and second slopes, respectively.

    摘要: An IQ modulator incorporates a quadrature network that is responsive to a frequency dependent control signal and that has in-phase and quadrature signals that are of equal amplitude and in exact quadrature over a wide range of applied frequencies. The quadrature network includes RC and CR phase shifters whose C's are fixed capacitors of equal value and whose R's are made equal to each other and to the capacitive reactance of the C's by the action of the frequency dependent control signal. The R's may be FET's. The frequency dependent control signal may be generated without express knowledge of the applied frequency by a servo loop that nulls out the amplitude difference between the in-phase and quadrature outputs from the quadrature network; it may also be generated from a look-up table as an express function of frequency. The frequency dependent control signal is split into separate instances that are applied to each R, and an offset may be introduced therebetween to provide extreme precision. The offset may be fixed or programmatically controlled as a function of frequency. Varactors may be used to provide variable C's in cooperation with fixed R's. The entire circuit may be fabricated as a GaAs IC for use in the frequency range of 200 MHz to 3GHz.

    摘要: An AM-RF transmitter includes a transmitter stage having a DC power supply terminal energized by an AC to DC converter including reactances having a resonant frequency approaching frequencies of an information, modulating signal. The voltage applied by the supply to the DC power supply terminal is reduced to such an extent as to induce distortion in the transmitted AM-RF carrier in response to the transmitter stage being modulated by positive amplitude variations having frequencies that approach the resonant frequency. The amplitude of the transmitter stage modulation is increased when the distortion would otherwise occur to substantially prevent the distortion. The information signal is modified in amplitude by only AC coupling a replica of the DC power supply voltage variations to one input of a four quadrant multiplier, having a second input responsive to the information signal.
