Embodiments of the disclosure relate to identifying remote units in a wireless distribution system (WDS) based on assigned unique temporal delay patterns. The WDS includes a plurality of remote units configured to communicate communications signals in signal paths. Each of the signal paths is assigned a unique temporal delay pattern. The communications signals are digitally delayed by respective delay elements based on the plurality of unique temporal delay patterns to provide delayed communications signals. A remote unit identification system analyzes a delayed communications signal to determine a respective temporal delay pattern associated within the delayed communication signal. By uniquely identifying a remote unit from which a delayed communication signal is communicated, it is possible to determine the locations client devices in the WDS, thus enabling a variety of location-based services and optimizations in the WDS.

A specially constructed analog processing block ahead of the traditional ADC within a typical RF front-end involving an antenna, filter, LNA, and AGC is provided. This analog block includes a structured matrix of controllable analog delay elements together with analog summers. The analog block can be used to form spectral estimates, narrow band filters, DS-SS detection, and more. The structured matrix can be programmed in order to implement SIGINT applications involving detection and characterization of communication signals.

The invention includes methods and systems for use in a wireless communications system, such as a CDMA mobile communications system. A communications device transmits a wireless signal. A repeater system receives a first version of the wireless signal using a first receiver system and receives a second version of the wireless signal using a second receiver system. The repeater system switches between the first version of the wireless signal and the second version of the wireless signal to generate a third version of the wireless signal. The repeater system transmits the third version of the wireless signal and a base station system receives the third version of the wireless signal. In some embodiments of the invention, the wireless signals are Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) signals. In some embodiments of the invention, the switching occurs at a rate of 4 MHz.

From received phase data sequences Y.sub.i obtained by the X-times oversampling, a data sequence including j symbol frequency components not affected by carrier frequency deviation is extracted by signal processing including simple adding and subtracting operations. The data sequence including j symbol frequency components is synthesized to provide two data sequences including symbol frequency components having a good S/N ratio with .pi./4 phase difference in radian and not affected by carrier frequency deviation. Further, a data sequence including two symbol frequency components is used for timing regeneration.

The method and apparatus, if desired, may include sending the recompressed video information for a destination apparatus which may then suitably decompress the video information using a standard decompression technique. For example, storing the compressed image in a high compressed format, for example, in a piecewise basis may be done online while the camera, for example, is in use so that the image is properly captured and then, transcoding the compressed image to a different level of compression while the camera is offline.
