Abstract: A wind turbine is provided including: i) a tower, ii) a nacelle coupled to the tower, iii) a yaw system arranged between the tower and the nacelle and configured to move the nacelle with respect to the tower, iv) an orientation determination device, configured to detect a current relative orientation between the nacelle and the wind direction to obtain an alignment parameter, v) a wind parameter determination device, configured to detect a current wind parameter to obtain a wind parameter, and vi) a control system being configured to: a) receive the alignment parameter and the wind parameter to obtain a load criterion, b) provide a maximum load criterion based on a maximum misalignment criterion that is different for at least two different wind parameters, c) determine, if the load criterion fulfills the maximum load criterion, and d) control the yaw system based on the determination result.

Abstract: A method is provided for controlling the shutdown of a wind turbine of the type having a rotor, the rotor comprising one or more wind turbine blades. The method comprises dynamically determining a rotor speed reference; obtaining a measure of the rotor speed of the rotor; determining an error between the rotor speed reference and the rotor speed of the rotor; and controlling a pitch of one or more of the wind turbine blades based on the determined error. A corresponding wind turbine controller and a wind turbine including such a controller are also provided.

Abstract: A method is provided for operation of a wind turbine having rotor blades attached to a hub, wherein a controller compensates for torsionally induced blade twist. The method includes operating the wind turbine according to a rated power output curve and maximum design thrust value, and periodically or continuously detecting for induced torsional twist in the rotor blades. Upon determination of torsional twist being induced in the rotor blades, the method includes adjusting the maximum thrust value in the control program to compensate for the induced twist. The wind turbine controller then controls pitch of the rotor blades as a function of the increased maximum thrust value so that power output of the wind turbine is not unnecessarily limited or increased by the induced twist on the rotor blades.

Abstract: A method for constrained control of a wind turbine includes receiving a plurality of operating parameters corresponding to the wind turbine. The plurality of operating parameters includes a wind preview parameter and a plurality of constraint parameters. The method further includes generating a constraint parameter estimate corresponding to a future time instant for at least one constraint parameter of the plurality of constraint parameters based on the plurality of operating parameters and a wind preview model. The method also includes predicting an extreme event corresponding to the at least one constraint parameter based on the constraint parameter estimate. The method includes determining a control parameter value corresponding to a wind turbine control parameter among a plurality of wind turbine control parameters. The method also includes operating the wind turbine using a feedforward control technique based on the control parameter value to circumvent the extreme event.

Abstract: A method of operating a wind turbine is provided. The wind turbine comprises a turbine rotor with at least two blades, each blade having a variable pitch angle. The method comprises determining mechanical loads on the blades, determining an asymmetric load moment experienced by the turbine rotor based on the mechanical loads on the blades, determining high order harmonics from the asymmetric load moment, and determining an individual pitch control signal for each of the blades for varying the pitch angle of each blade to compensate for the asymmetric load moment. The individual pitch control signal for each blade is determined at least based on the high order harmonics.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of identifying a wind distribution pattern over a rotor plane and a wind turbine thereof. At least one operating parameter of the wind turbine and a rotational position of the rotor are measured over a time period. A first wind turbine blade passing signal is extracted from the measured operating parameter and a second wind turbine blade passing signal is generated from the rotational position. The first and second wind turbine blade passing signals are then analysed to determine the characteristics of the actual wind turbine blade passing signal in the rotor plane. These characteristics are afterwards compared to the characteristics of a plurality of known wind distribution patterns, and a unique relationship between the characteristics of the wind turbine blade passing signal and the wind distribution pattern is used to identify a distinctive wind distribution pattern.

Abstract: A method for optimizing the operation of a wind turbine having a rotor with at least one rotor blade, a tower, and a wind turbine controller, comprises determining a first load status of the wind turbine based on metereological data acquired by sensors, including a turbulence intensity; determining a second load status of the wind turbine based on mechanical loads on at least one wind turbine component; and increasing a load of the wind turbine, if the determined first and second load status of the turbine are within selectable load limits. A wind turbine implementing the method is also disclosed.
