摘要: An intelligent current lead device, its design, fabrication, and methods of operation are described in this disclosure. The intelligent current lead device described in this disclosure electrically and thermally connects and disconnects one or more power sources or loads operating at one temperature reservoir with one or more machines or devices operating at either the same or a different temperature reservoir. The intelligent current lead can operate in either an active mode or passive mode. The intelligent current lead device may incorporate the use of multiple types of diagnostic sensors and instrumentation, which can be monitored, interpreted, and analyzed. The program logic of the intelligent current lead may be used to interpret the data obtained from the diagnostic sensors and instrumentation in order to adjust/actuate/switch the current lead so as to optimize its configuration to respond to requirements of an electrical load that changes with time. There are many applications that the intelligent current lead can be used in conjunction with including but not limited to: superconducting magnets, transformers, power cables, energy storage, motors, generators, fault current limiters, circuit breakers, fusion magnets, accelerator magnets, MRI magnets, NMR magnets, induction heaters, magnetic separators, among other applications.

摘要: An arrangement for electrically conductively connecting two electrical units by means of a bipolar high voltage direct current transmission, in which between the units are arranged at least two electrical direct current cables constructed as superconductive cables. The superconductive cables are mounted separately from each other in a cryostat (1,2) suitable for conducting a cooling agent which has at least one metal pipe provided with a thermal insulation. The cryostats (1,2) are connected with at least one of their ends to a cooling plant (7) supplying the cooling agent and a pipeline (3) is placed parallel to the two cryostats (1,2). The pipeline (3) is connected at both its ends to the two cryostats (1,2) through valves (15,16,17) which are closed during uninterrupted operation and, in the case of an interruption at one of the superconductive cables, the pipeline (3) serves with the then open valves for conducting the cooling agent intended for the cryostat of the impaired cable.

摘要: A network-based energy management system may identify an area that exhibits a need for electrical energy. The network-based energy management system may also identify an area that exhibits an ability to provide electrical energy. The network-based energy management system may cause electrical energy to be routed from the second area to the first area. In some embodiments, the first area and the second area may include base stations that are electrically connected to one another by one or more energy conduits, which may include superconducting wires so as to minimize transmission losses between base stations and their respective areas.

摘要: A high-voltage DC transmission system and method is characterized by a minimum filtering requirement as to ripple as well as to surge and harmonics. Use of a superconducting generator directly coupled to rectifying means eliminates the requirement of a step-up transformer and allows operation at high frequency for minimizing ripple (and related filtering).

摘要: A superconductor tape and method for manufacturing, measuring, monitoring, and controlling same are disclosed. Embodiments are directed to a superconductor tape which includes a superconductor film overlying a buffer layer which overlies a substrate. In one embodiment, the superconductor film is defined as having a c-axis lattice constant higher than 11.74 Angstroms. In another embodiment, the superconductor film comprises BaMO3, where M=Zr, Sn, Ta, Nb, Hf, or Ce, and which has a (101) peak of BaMO3 elongated along an axis that is between 60° to 90° from an axis of the (001) peaks of the superconductor film. These and other embodiments achieve well-aligned nanocolumnar defects and thus a high lift factor, which can result in superior critical current performance of the tape in, for example, high magnetic fields.
