    摘要: In a flat panel solar collector adapted to be evacuable and vacuum-tight, at least one absorber is provided. At least one conduit is provided which is at least partially thermally associated with the at least one absorber. A holding structure is provided comprising a perimetric frame. At least one first transparent wall is provided, the first transparent wall and the holding structure having a overlapping area. At least one side of the first transparent wall comprises at least partially at said overlapping area a metal coating forming at least one metallized area on the transparent wall. A first soft metal ribbon is provided sealing the junction between the first transparent wall and the holding structure and which is soldered to the holding structure and to the metallized area of the first transparent wall.

    摘要: A radiation gathering reflector and a method of making a radiation gathering reflector. Resin impregnated fibrous material is wound onto a mandrel which has a pair of opposing surfaces of revolution each of which has a shape corresponding to a predetermined shape of the inner reflector surface, and the resin is allowed to polymerize to form a composite which includes two integrally connected structural support members. An equatorial cut is formed in the composite to separate the support members from each other and from the mandrel. Then, a reflective surface is formed on the inner surface of at least one of the separated support members for gathering radiation. Alternatively, the reflective surface is formed on the surface of the mandrel and the resin impregnated fibrous material is wound onto the reflective surface and allowed to polymerize to form the composite. The forming of the radiation gathering reflector by a polar winding process such that a greater mass of material is located at the center portion is preferred to provide increased structural support at the center portion for attachment of radiation absorbing components so that the support member may have a thin edge portion and therefore require less material, be inexpensive, and be of lighter weight. Such a radiation gathering reflector also preferably includes a plurality of strengthening ribs which extend between the center portion and the edge portion and which cross each other in diamond-shaped configurations to provide increased strength and stiffness to the reflector support member.

    摘要: A solar energy collector element having an inner tube which carries a heat exchange fluid, an outer glass tube, an evacuated space between the two tubes and a solar selective surface coating in thermal contact with the outer surface of the inner tube. A gas is admitted to the evacuated space for the purpose of degrading the vacuum and limiting the stagnation temperature of the collector element. The gas is selected to exhibit hydrophobic characteristics, to absorb onto the selective surface coating at temperatures less than a predetermined temperature to desorb into the evacuated space at temperatures greater than the predetermined temperature but not adsorb significantly onto the outer glass tube.

    摘要: An improved thermal radiator uses host materials having high internal reflection and scattering co-efficients for improved effectiveness. Selective thermal radiators are used for frequency conversion of incident radiation through the Welsbach effect. A Welsbach material screen is used to convert incident IR radiation into visible radiation, permitting visual observation of IR radiation and facilitating control and monitoring of IR equipment. Welsbach material is also used as a dynamic IR target which converts incident visible radiation into a high resolution IR source pattern. Welsbach material is also employed as a temperature stable material for converting solar radiation into heat.

    摘要: A metal article which covered with a nickel-phosphorus alloy and which is covered on its outer surface with a protective layer which comprises CrPO.sub.4, Cr(OH).sub.3 and may also comprise Cr.sub.2 (SO.sub.4).sub.3 and in which no nickel is present. The layer provides an excellent corrosion protection. In a particular embodiment the layer is black, scratch-resistant in normal use, cannot be wiped off and is not sensitive to finger prints and is extremely suitable for decorative applications. The layers can be obtained electrolytically in a bath which comprises chromic acid and optionally reversed current in a given frequency range, a given range of current densities and a given range of ratios of cathodic to anodic pulse durations. In order to obtain the black layers the cathodic time duration is only a fraction of black layers the anodic time duration.
