    摘要: The invention relates to an arrangement for controlling the edge of pulp mass in a web former, the web former comprising a space formed by two wires or the like, into which space the pulp mass is fed. The wires or the like are supported on a chamber units, which each time include at least one chamber for receiving the water removed from the pulp mass. In conjunction with the side edge of the said web former are arranged pulp mass edge control means, which include an edge sealing part. The edge sealing part extends, in the lateral direction of the web former, by a distance between the chamber units in such a way that it will prevent the pulp mass edge from passing and/or spreading in the lateral direction of the web former into the area of the said edge of the web former. The invention also relates to a method for controlling the pulp mass edge in a web former.

    摘要: A flexible elongated seal for use in sealing the interface between a window frame and the corresponding window glass of a vehicle. The flexible elongated seal has a rigid reinforcement embedded within a portion of it and a flexible wire mesh reinforcement embedded within a different portion of it. The portion of the flexible elongated seal that is reinforced by the rigid reinforcement is very stiff which has advantages, but it cannot be bent along its length to conform to curved portions of a perimeter of the window frame. The portion of the flexible elongated seal that is reinforced by the wire mesh reinforcement is slightly less stiff than the portion reinforced by the rigid reinforcement, but it can be bent along its length to enable it to conform to curved portions of the window frame.

    摘要: An apparatus is disclosed for maintaining a fluid seal with a moving substrate. The apparatus includes an enclosure and a cap. The enclosure has a first surface and a second surface with the first surface being in sealing contact with the moving substrate. The cap seals off the second surface of the enclosure. The cap is secured to the enclosure at at least two spaced apart locations and has a non-secured portion that is capable of deflecting independently of the enclosure. The apparatus further includes means for introducing a pressurized fluid into the enclosure. The pressurized fluid creates a net force on the enclosure of zero and a force on the cap which causes a portion of the cap to deflect. The deflection of the cap allows the first surface of the enclosure to remain in sealing contact with the moving substrate.

    摘要: An injection hose intended for sealing expansion joint in concrete structures. The hose is in the form a continuous hollow extrusion (12), made of elastic, flexible material, with a continuous longitudinal bore (10) and at least one longitudinal groove (16). The groove (16) is connected to the bore (10) by means of apertures (22) in the wall of the extrusion and is fitted with a sealing strip (24), made of compressible, elastic material, which extends over the apertures (22). Production of the hose is made particularly simple and inexpensive by virtue of the fact that the width of the groove openings (26) is less than the diameter of the sealing strip (24) and that the means of holding the sealing strip (24) in place are formed by making undercuts in the side (30) of the groove (16).

    摘要: A sealing strip and joint for a papermaking machine suction roll is disclosed which includes in combination a stationary suction box and a perforated cylindrical shell which rotates around the stationary suction box disposed centrally within the cylindrical shell. The suction box includes slots constructed near at least two outside edges of the suction box extending across the width of the suction box. A composite seal strip extends throughout the width of each slot which includes a plurality of elongated seal strips jointed together end-to-end in the slots. A plurality of joints are spaced along the length of the composite sealing strip defined by ends of adjacent seal strips joined together. The joints include a first end section of a first strip and a second end section of a second strip mated together in an abutting relation. The first end section and second end section have interfitted radius surfaces which mate against each other against the rotation of said cylindrical shell. Planar joint surfaces interconnect the radius surfaces of the first and second end sections of the interfitted ends accommodating thermal expansion of the individual seal strips in the composite strip in a linear direction.

    摘要: An improvement is disclosed for an encapsulated measuring device used for measuring the relative position of two objects. The improvement comprises a pair of sealing lips, each secured at one edge to a housing for the measuring device, and together covering an opening in the housing. The lips each define regions of greater flexibility adjacent to regions of lesser flexibility. A follower passes through the opening between the sealing lips. The sealing lips operate to maintain a seal for the opening while permitting the follower to pass between them. The lips are constructed such that openings adjacent to the follower are minimized or eliminated, and little frictional force is exerted on the follower if it moves in the opening along a measuring direction. The result is that accurate measurement is possible while intrusion of debris into the housing is largely prevented due to the seal.

    摘要: An improved magnetic gas gate is adapted to operatively interconnect two adjacent chambers, in the first chamber of which process gases are introduced for depositing a first layer upon a magnetic substrate and in the second chamber of which process gases are introduced for depositing a second layer atop the first layer. Since it is important to prevent the second chamber gases from contaminating the first chamber gases, a constant pressure differential established between the chambers is employed to provide a substantially unidirectional flow of gases from the first chamber into the second chamber. Magnetic gas gates have been used in the prior art to reduce the size of gas gate passageways by creating a magnetic field which urges the unlayered surface of the substrate toward a wall of the passageway. Although the size of the passageway opening is thereby reduced with a corresponding reduction in back diffusion of gases from the second chamber, the passageway is simultaneously divided into a relatively large flow channel and a relatively narrow flow channel. The present invention reduces the back diffusion of gases through the relatively narrow flow channel by forming a plurality of elongated grooves in the passageway wall toward which the unlayered surface of the substrate is urged. The grooves are substantially coextensive with the length of the passageway so as to operatively interconnect the adjacent chambers. The flow channels thus established are adapted to accommodate a sufficient flow of inert sweep gases to further reduce the back diffusion of process gases through the narrow flow channel.
