Abstract:
In a tube whose internal space is partitioned by a partition wall to formed an air chamber filled with air and a sealant chamber filled with a sealant, the ratio R (RnullB/A) of the length B of an outer circumference of the tube accommodated in the tire and expanded by filling of air to the length A of an outer circumference of the tube in an unexpanded is set in a range of 100% to 110%. Thus, the tension of the partition wall at the time when the tube has been expanded is suppressed to a small extent. Even if the partition wall of the tube gets a punctured wound, the partition wall having only a small tension applied thereto has a weak tendency to be intended to be contracted toward the air chamber. Therefore, little, if any, of the air in the air chamber flows into the sealant chamber and thus, a reduction in sealing performance of the sealant due to the mixture with the air is prevented.

Abstract:
A self-healing tire system containing a tire casing, a tacky sealant material, an inner tube and anti-tack material is described. In one embodiment, either the surface of the inner tube or the inner surface of the tire casing is coated with the tacky sealant material. The surface of the sealant, the opposing surface or both are coated with the anti-tack material. The anti-tack material renders the sealant non-tacky for a sufficient time so that the inner tube can be inserted and inflated. However, the anti-tack material allows the sealant surface to become tacky again thereby adhering to the tube and providing for sealing of the tube when it is punctured. In another embodiment, a release agent is contained between the sealant and the tire casing which facilitates removal of the sealant and tube from the tire casing.
Abstract:
A pneumatic run-flat insert for a pneumatic tire is provided with circumferential sections having different radii. During vehicle operation in a run-flat condition the different insert radii cause a vibratory disturbance at a wheel axle that alerts the driver of the existence of a run-flat condition or an abnormally low-pressure condition in the tire. During normal driving conditions there is clearance between the insert and the tire liner and no warning vibrations will occur in the wheel axle.In various embodiments of the invention the different insert radii correspond to two or more ply sections in an insert ply having different cord angles. A relatively high cord angle ply section will furnish a relatively larger radius than the ply section with a relatively low cord angle. In further embodiments of the invention a pneumatic or non-pneumatic run-flat insert includes one or more bumps on the insert crown formed of rubber strips for example that furnish the insert with an out-of-round condition that causes a similar vibrating disturbance to warn the driver of a low-tire pressure or run-flat condition.
