Abstract:
A multi-cartridge cutting tool includes a body with a plurality of cartridge-receiving pockets, and a plurality of insert-receiving cartridges mounted to a respective pocket. A round cutting insert is mounted to each cartridge. The pockets are formed at predetermined distances from a central, longitudinal axis of the body to form a first group and a second group of cutting inserts such that the cutting edges of the first group of cutting inserts and the cutting edges of the second group of cutting inserts are located at different axial and radial distances from the central, longitudinal axis of the body to perform different machining operations. The cutting tool may be used as part of a railway wheel boring assembly.
Abstract:
A backup board for use in a machining process includes a fibrous layer, at least one side of the fibrous layer being provided with a surface layer adhered and laminated thereon, wherein the surface layer is made of a cured paper impregnated with a thermosetting resin. The fibrous layer has a density of about 600˜900 kg/m3 and includes kenaf fibers adhered together by impregnating a thermosetting adhesive into a fibrous mat of the kenaf fibers, the kenaf fibers having an average length of about 10˜200 mm and an average diameter of about 10˜300 μm.

Abstract:
There are provided a printed board drilling method and a printed board machining apparatus that are capable of improving machining quality, such positional accuracy of holes and true roundness of machined holes, and work efficiency by minimizing a runout of the tip of a drill. An extension of the drill extending out a spindle when the drill is held by the spindle is defined in advance per type or mode of use of each drill. One drill is selected among a plurality of drills corresponding to a shape of holes to be drilled in the printed board and the spindle is caused to hold the drill so that the selected drill extends out of the spindle by the extension corresponding to the selected drill. Then, the move of the spindle with respect to the printed board is controlled and the selected drill is rotationally driven by the spindle to drill the printed board.
Abstract:
A power tool (2) includes a motor (22) pivotally mounted within the housing of the tool. The tool is able to accept any one of a plurality of attachment members (44, 46, 48).
Abstract:
An automatic tool changing apparatus incorporated in a drilling machine or the like comprises a plurality of collets, each for supporting and selectively grasping a tool holder mechanism. Each of the collets is slotted in its upper and central portions to divide the collet into a plurality of arcuate sections. The central portion of each collet is of generally truncated cone-shaped configuration, and rests in a generally truncated cone-shaped bore in a collet support block. A pneumatic piston arrangement is connected to the collets for selectively pulling the collets downwardly in their respective collet support blocks to move the generally arcuate sections of each collet radially inwardly to grasp a tool holder mechanism. Spring return means are provided for moving the collets into their normal positions wherein they will support, but will not grasp the tool holder mechanisms.
Abstract:
A portal-type milling-boring machine has two columns disposed on opposite sides of a bed over which a workpiece-supporting table moves, a beam extending between the two columns over said bed. Working heads are carried by the columns and the beam for effecting different machining operations on a workpiece, and the columns are movable on respective transverse guides parallel to the axis of the beam to vary the effective width of the portal. This enables boring operations to be effected on the sides of the workpiece by the working heads carried by the columns. Suspensions are provided for transmitting the weight of the beam and the heads carried thereby to fixed auxiliary columns.
