摘要:
The system disclosed is for controlling the iodine level in a water supply in a spacecraft. The system iodinates drinking water as necessary. It includes an iodine accumulator which stores crystalline iodine, an electro-chemical valve to control the input of iodine to the drinking water and an iodine dispenser. A pump dispenses fluid through the iodine dispenser and an iodine sensor to a potable water tank storage. The iodine sensor electronically detects the iodine level in the water, and through electronic means, produces a correction current control. The correction current control operates the electro-chemical iodine valve to release iodine from the iodine accumulator into the iodine dispenser.

Processes for the preparation of base metal titanate catalysts in situ on refractory ceramic support structures which provide devices of significantly improved catalytic efficiency particularly suited for automotive exhaust emissions control applications are described. The base metal titanate catalysts comprise titaniferous crystal phases of spinel, ilmenite and/or pseudobrookite structure which consist essentially, in weight percent on the oxide basis, of about 15-85% TiO2, 15-70% M''''o, wherein M'''' is Mn 2, Co 2, Fe 2 or Cu 2, and 0-60% M2''''''O3, wherein M'''''' is A1 3, Fe 3, Cr 3, Mn 3 or Co 3. The process comprises preparing a solution of compounds of the desired metals, coating a refractory ceramic support structure with the solution, precipitating the desired metals from the solution onto the support structure as a coating of hydroxides, and firing the structure to convert the hydroxide coating to an oxide coating of the desired composition and crystalline structure.

Treatment of watery solutions by means of ion exchange; the exchange mass through which the liquid under treatment flows is conducted from a bottom funnel of the treatment container to a regenerating-and-wash-column and thence back to the liquid treatment container. After leaving the liquid treatment container and before entering the regenerating-and-wash-column the ion exchange masses are back-rinsed in a back-rinse container; the ion exchange mass is transported from the regenerating-and-washcolumn means of an immersion tube at the top of the regeneratingand-wash-column, the depth of immersion of the immersion tube being adjustable according to the volume in the bottom funnel of the treatment container; consequently the ion exchange mass in the head of the regenerating-and-wash-column which has been transported from the treatment container corresponds to the volume transported from the bottom funnel thereof.

THE INVENTION PROVIDES AN IMPROVED METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DELIVERING A MIXTURE OF ANION AND CATION EXCHANGE RESINS TO A SEPARATION COLUMN,. IN CARRYING OUT THE METHOD, RESIN IS DELIVERED RAPIDLY FROM A METERING ZONE TO THE TRANSFER ZONE, AND THEN IS DELIVERED FROM THE TRANSFER ZONE TO THE SEPARATION COLUMN AT A RELATIVELY SLOW RATE OF SPEED. THIS TWO-STEP TRANSFER MINIMIZES UNDESIRABLE
DISTURBANCES IN THE SEPARATION COLUMN. IN THE APPARATUS, THE METERING AND TRANSFER ZONES ARE PREFERABLY DEFINED BY SUITABLE HOPPERS LOCATED ABOVE THE SEPARATION COLUMN.
摘要:
A solution to be treated by ion exchange is continuously introduced into the bottom of the first of a series of ion exchange vessels containing respective adsorption columns of an appropriate, particulate, ion exchange material, and is passed successively through the subsequent ion exchange vessels of the series, so that such solution flows continuously upwardly through each adsorption column, thence to the bottom of the next column, and is finally discharged from the last column of the series as fully treated solution. The loaded adsorption column is removed from the first vessel of the series, usually to eluting means for regeneration, and the other adsorption columns are transferred from vessel to vessel up the line, the adsorption column of the last vessel of the series being replaced by substantially unloaded ion exchange material, usually eluted material from the adsorption column of the first vessel of the series. The cycle is repeated continuously throughout any given period of operation of the method. The eluting means preferably comprises one or more conventional fixed bed ion exchange vessels, with or without a holding vessel in advance thereof, and there is preferably an excess of ion exchange material at this stage so that, in conjunction with such vessel or vessels, there is a metering of ion exchange material circulating batchwise through the system countercurrent to the solution.

IN AN ION EXCHANGE APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR THE SOFTENING AND/OR DESALTING OF WATER BY COUNTERCURRENT FLOW, AN ION EXCHANGE COLUMN, CONTAINING ALTERNATELY CATION EXCHANGE MATERIAL AND ANION EXCHANGE MATERIAL, IS PROVIDED WITH A PAIR OF REGENERATING COLUMNS BEING CONNECTED TO SAID EXCHANGE COLUMN, WITH ONE RECEIVING SPENT CATION MATERIAL AND THE OTHER SPENT ANION MATERIAL, AND A WASHING COLUMN CONNECTED TO EACH REGENERATION COLUMN AND TO THE EXCHANGE COLUMN SO THAT UPON THE REGENERATION AND WASHING OF THE CATION AND ANION EXCHANGE MATERIALS, EACH WILL BE PASSED TO THEIR RESPECTIVE ZONE.
