    摘要: The present disclosure provides a knife sharpening device, including a housing and a sharpening assembly arranged inside the housing. The sharpening assembly includes a sharpening wheel rotatably mounted inside the housing. The sharpening wheel includes two opposite mounting surfaces arranged along an axial direction and a sharpening surface along a circumferential direction. The housing is formed thereon with a first sharpening groove that is arranged on a first side of the sharpening surface. The first sharpening groove is formed with openings at both ends along a length direction, and the first side of the sharpening surface extends partially into an interior of the first sharpening groove. During sharpening, a knife is placed into the first sharpening groove to contact the sharpening surface for grinding. According to the technical solution of the present disclosure, sharpening grooves are formed on the housing and fit with the sharpening surface.

    摘要: A blade sharpening and blade sharpness detection system for permitting blade sharpening and a determination of blade sharpness without mechanical contact with the blade cutting edge. An optical inspection unit inspects blade sharpness optically, and a blade positioning and guidance mechanism positions and guides the blade in relation to the optical inspection unit. An output display provides visual output of blade sharpness. The optical inspection unit, which can be a reflective optical sensor, and the blade positioning and guidance mechanism are retained by a pivotable support structure. The positioning and guidance mechanism can comprise first and second pairs of rotatable spheres, each such pair disposed in immediate juxtaposition to act as rolling supports for the blade. The entry of ambient light into the sharpness sensing volume can be prevented by resiliently deflectable light-blocking bodies retained to first and second sides of a sharpness inspection slot within the housing.

    摘要: An automatic knife sharpening machine may include a vice to grip a blade of a knife and a pair of grind wheels to grind material from the blade. The machine may include a scanner to determine a profile of an edge of the blade, and a sharpness sensor to determine a sharpness level of the edge. The machine may include a controller. The controller may perform a first sharpening pass on the knife by moving the grind wheels into contact with the blade, and advancing the grind wheels longitudinally along the blade from adjacent the vice towards a tip of the blade with the grind wheels in contact with the blade. The controller may determine, using the sharpness sensor, the sharpness level of the edge after the first sharpening pass and perform at least one second sharpening pass when the determined sharpness level is less than a threshold sharpness level.

    摘要: Apparatus configured to sharpen a blade of a cutting tool. In some embodiments, a sharpener is provided having a housing and a sharpening stage with at least one sharpening element. Each sharpening element is characterized as a plate and has a curvilinearly extending, concave sharpening surface configured to impart a corresponding convex sharpening geometry to a selected side of the blade during a sharpening operation in which a user retracts the blade along a longitudinal drawing axis through the sharpening stage. A pair of intersecting sharpening elements may be provided to form a substantially v-shaped groove for a ripper-type sharpening stage. The sharpening element(s) may be fixed or tiltable with respect to the housing. The sharpening element(s) may further be moveable in a lateral direction to narrow or widen the v-shaped groove and change the convex geometry and edge angle imparted to the blade.
