Abstract:
A chainsaw which has a low profile chain cover and a chain bar tightening clutch system. The chain bar tightening clutch system can have a bar tightening knob which drives a clutch which governs the amount of pressure applied to the chain bar by operating the bar tightening knob. The chainsaw can have a chain bar tensioning system which can have a tensioning drive member in an offset position from the tensioning post which positions the tensioning post to achieve a chain tension and compact chainsaw design. The chainsaw can also have an oil cap with a lock channel having a detent with produces a sound when moved from a disengaged to an engage position with an oil reservoir.
Abstract:
A hand-held power tool is provided with a drive motor and a clutch connected to the drive motor. The drive motor drives a tool member through the clutch. The clutch has a clutch drum with a circumferential wall provided with an end face. A follower member engages a groove in the circumferential wall of the clutch drum and a driven element is connected to the follower member to be driven by the follower member. The groove extends from the end face of the circumferential wall into the circumferential wall and has a groove bottom and two groove sides positioned opposite each other. The circumferential wall has a protrusion located at the groove bottom. The protrusion has a protrusion thickness measured at the groove bottom that amounts to at least approximately 110% of a wall thickness of the circumferential wall measured at the two groove sides.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a portable motorized chain saw, comprising: a chain sprocket; clutch means positioned between the chain sprocket and the drive shaft of the motor for selectively coupling the chain sprocket with the drive shaft, the clutch means including a drum member; and a brake band positioned in contiguous relationship with the outer circumferential surface of the drum member and including one or more oil stripping openings therein.
Abstract:
A clutch arrangement for a motor driven chain saw having a first clutch element driven by the motor shaft and a second clutch element normally engaged with the first clutch element but disengageable therefrom and a centrifugal clutch between the second clutch element and the drive sprocket for the saw chain. The second clutch element includes a spring disc and is axially yieldable between clutch engaged and clutch disengaged positions. A lever is provided moveable for disengaging the clutch elements and a brake member connected to the lever is operable for braking the drive sprocket when the clutch elements are disengaged.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for preventing injury to an operator of a chain saw of the type having a housing including a frame handle and a control handle, a guide rail connected to the housing, a cutting chain operably carried by the guide rail, power means mounted within the housing including a drive shaft operably connectable with the cutting chain, sprocket means meshed in driving engagement with the cutting chain and clutch means at least in part connected to the drive shaft and operable for selectively connecting the drive shaft and the clutch means for driving the cutting chain. The apparatus includes in combination with the foregoing described chain saw a disc means fixedly connected to the sprocket and operably engageable with the clutch means in a driving relationship. Means are provided for biasing at least a portion of the disc into operable driving engagement with the clutch means. A cam means is connected within the housing and is operably engageable with the disc. An actuation system is connected to the housing for actuating the cam against the disc in response to at least one of an abrupt upward pivot or ''''kick'''' of the guide rail generally about the center of gravity of the chain saw and physical engagement of at least a portion of the actuation system by an operator''s hand slipping from the frame handle. Actuation of this system serves to overcome the bias and disengage the disc from driving engagement with the clutch to thus remove driving torque from the cutting chain. An independent apparatus aspect of the invention is the provision of an inertia actuation system for operably disengaging a chain saw drive shaft from a cutting chain in the event an abrupt upward pivot or ''''kick'''' of the guide rail generally about the center of gravity of the chain saw is encountered. The method includes the steps of providing a disc fixedly connected to the cutting chain drive sprocket, biasing a portion of the disc into operable driving engagement with the chain saw clutch and driving the cutting chain by driving torque applied from the drive shaft through the clutch, the disc and the sprocket. The method further includes providing a cam operably carried for rotation within the chain saw housing and being engageable with the disc and actuating the cam in response to at least one of an upward pivot or ''''kick'''' of the guide rail generally about the center of gravity of the chain saw, and physical engagement of at least a portion of the actuating system by an operator''s hand slipping from the frame handle for overcoming the bias on the disc and disengaging the disc from driving engagement with the clutch to remove driving torque from the sprocket and cutting chain.
Abstract:
This disclosure describes a tool holding attachment for accommodating a drill or other tool, which attachment is adapted for securing to the exposed clutch member of a portable powered chain saw, thus converting such a saw, for example, to a portable powered drill which can bore large diameter holes in a relatively short period of time.
Abstract:
An engine-driven working machine according to the present invention has a controller and a muffler. The controller is operated from starting of the engine in a rotational speed limitation mode in which the engine is prevented from rotating at a rotational speed that is higher than the predetermined limitation rotational speed. The controller forces to stop the engine, after a predetermined period has passed, during which the engine operates in the rotational speed limitation mode.
Abstract:
A portable power tool includes a power module and a tool module, e.g., a chain saw module which is attached to the power module and which can be readily exchanged with another tool module, e.g., a cutter module. The power module includes a power source such as two-stroke gasoline engine with a drive shaft. To facilitate rapid exchange of tool modules, there are two or more torque transmission members such as a pulley and a sprocket wheel on the drive shaft, so that different tool modules can be attached to the power module without removal and replacement of the torque transmission member.
