Abstract:
A method and apparatus for forming a member, such as a column. The invention comprises inner and outer molds that are spaced apart forming a cavity for receiving a viscous material for making the member. A core is inserted within the inner area of inner mold when the viscous material is initially disposed within the mold. Once the material attains a gelled state, an extraction member is inserted within the inner area. A vacuum is applied to the inner area that causes the flexible inner mold to separate from the material and conform to the extraction member allowing for removal.
Abstract:
A method of producing a polyphosphate, orthophosphate, phosphonate or the like chemical treatment cake is disclosed. Conventional commercially available treatment material is obtained in powder form and mixed with water to initiate an exothermic reaction. The material is then poured into a mold and placed inside an insulated hermetic cabinet and allowed to quiescently cool in the passive environment of the cabinet. The cake is harder, more uniform and relatively free of inclusions compared to cakes formed by other methods.
Abstract:
Process for pelletizing polyethylene resin are disclosed, the processes providing pelletized resin having reduced occurrence of defects such as black specks. Polyethylene resin is conveyed in a downstream direction through a mixer having a feed zone, a melt-mixing zone downstream of the feed zone, and a melt-conveying zone downstream of the melt-mixing zone; contacted with nitrogen gas in the melt-conveying zone; and conveyed through a mixer discharge to form pellets. Also disclosed are processes of forming films from such resins, the films having reduced occurrence of gels, and articles such as blow molded or injection molded articles.
Abstract:
An apparatus for making crayons is disclosed. The apparatus includes a base that houses a heating component, a melt pan disposed to absorb heat from the heating component, a mold, and a cover. The melt pan receives crayon material and contains it as the heating component increases the temperature, causing the crayon material to liquefy. The liquefied crayon material can then be drained by the user of the device, into a mold with crayon-shaped cavities. A cover prevents access to the melt pan and the mold during particular operating conditions of the apparatus.
Abstract:
The invention is directed toward techniques for creating molded substrates for use in various different data storage media. The molded substrates have improved thickness profiles that can improve media quality, and in some cases facilitate higher data storage densities. In many cases, the improved thickness profile is a thickness profile that has improved flatness. Mechanical flatness or optical flatness can be achieved. In particular, optical flatness is desirable for substrates used in holographic data storage media having a sandwiched construction.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for the production of molded parts having a front face and a back face made of a hardenable reaction material, whereby a casting mold consisting of several mold parts is formed, said casting mold having a configuration that remains substantially unchanged during a molding and hardening step and forming a cavity into which the reaction material is filled and hardened, whereupon the casting mold is opened and the molded part is removed from the casting mold. At least one casting mold part has a deformable surface and the cavity of the casting mold is filled with a predetermined amount of hardenable reaction material from a reservoir. The reaction material is hardened while the volume of the cavity of the casting mold is reduced by deformation of the deformable surface of the casting mold. The invention is characterized in that a deformable casting mold surface is used, which is formed by a metal layer and in that the metal layer is kept in contact with the reaction material during deformation of the deformable casting mold surface. The invention also relates to a corresponding device for implementing the method disclosed in the invention.
Abstract:
Methods of manufacturing a sealing or an anti-extrusion component for use in a downhole tools is described. The method includes formation of the component from a composition that contains a polyetherketoneketone or a derivative of a polyetherketoneketone. The resultant component is adapted for use in a downhole tool. The invention is also a sealing or an anti-extrusion component for use in a downhole tool. The component contains a composition, which itself is composed of a polyetherketoneketone or a derivative of a polyetherketoneketone, and the component is adapted for use in a downhole tool.
Abstract:
A method for fabricating a seal-integrated separator for a fuel cell is presented, with which seals can be accurately positioned and the assembling time for the fuel cells may be greatly reduced. The method comprises the steps of: providing an upper mold having a groove positioned corresponding to second and fourth seals disposed on one side of a separator body, and a lower mold having a groove positioned corresponding to first and third seals disposed on the other side of the separator body; holding the separator body between the upper mold and the lower mold; and injecting melted seal material to form the seals into each of the grooves in the upper mold and the lower mold through separate gates respectively formed in the upper and lower molds. Through this method, a seal-integrated separator having the first to fourth seals which are integrated on both sides of the separator body is fabricated.
Abstract:
A mold battery with provisions for separating one mold member from another by both rotating away and also translating away. A mold member comprises two wheels resting on two rails and a lower roller. While the mold member is rotated to an open angle stopped by the lower roller contacting a stop surface, yet the mold member can also be translated away by rolling along the rails. When joining mold members, a freedom of movement is provided which improves the seal. One embodiment comprises parallel guidance by wheels fixed on a common axle and turning in unison. One embodiment substitutes a fixed pin for the lower roller.
Abstract:
A mold box for producing a plurality of masonry units with a roughened texture side face, the mold box including a plurality of side walls defining a mold cavity open at its top and bottom, adapted to receive masonry fill material by way of its open top, and to discharge molded fill material in the form of a molded masonry unit of predetermined height by way of its open bottom; and a division member spanning between two of the side walls to define two subcavities in the mold box, the division member comprising a grate.
