A ceramic tape is provided in its green state so that it is malleable and formable to a mold for forming a dental restoration, but will not break or crack as it is applied to the mold. Pressure may be applied to further form or adapt the ceramic tape to the shape of the mold. Heat is applied simultaneously with pressure or in a separate step to achieve high density and strength in the ceramic material. A vacuum atmosphere may be used with the application of pressure and/or heat. One or more layers of surface material such as porcelain or composite resin may be applied to the ceramic to form the dental restoration. The process is useful in the manufacture of dental materials or restorations including but not limited to orthodontic appliances, bridges, space maintainers, tooth replacement appliances, splints, crowns, partial crowns, dentures, posts; teeth, jackets, inlays, onlays, facing, veneers, facets, implants, abutments, cylinders, and connectors. Also provided is a ceramic powder in combination with one or more media materials to form a homogeneous mixture. The mixture may then be used to form a dental restoration as is or may be used to form feedstock such as filaments or wires which are then used to fabricate a dental restoration. The filaments or wires may be used in a fused deposition-modeling machine to build dental restorative materials by computer aided design software.

Disclosed is a modeling technique wherein a three-dimensional model and its support structure are built by fused deposition modeling, using a thermoplastic blended material containing a polyphenylsulfone (PPSF) polymer and a polycarbonate (PC) polymer to form the model. The PPSF/PC blend exhibits good chemical resistance, thermal stability, and resists build-up in the nozzle of a three-dimensional modeling apparatus. Removal of the support structure from a completed model is facilitated by operating on the material while it is hot.

The mould parts (32,34) are closed around the core (36) and a molten plastics material injected into the mould. The mould parts (32,34) are then opened leaving the column sections (46,48,50,52) exposed on the core (36). While the plastics material is still warm, the core (36) is retracted through a base plate (54) of the mould (30), pulling the column sections (46,48,50,52) towards the base plate (54) to collapse the sections together. The collapsed column is then removed from the mould (30) for assembly into a lipstick.

The molded substrates have improved thickness profiles that can improve media quality, and in some cases facilitate higher data storage densities. In many cases, the improved thickness profile is a thickness profile that has improved flatness. Mechanical flatness or optical flatness can be achieved. In particular, optical flatness is desirable for substrates used in holographic data storage media having a sandwiched construction.

A stereolithographic method and apparatus for forming polymeric structures comprising a plurality of overlying layers, each layer formed by polymerizing a thin layer of liquid photopolymer on a prior layer. Crevices formed at the layer interfaces are filled by a stereolithographic method comprising lifting the multilayered structure from the liquid photopolymer, draining excess liquid therefrom, tilting the structure to provide an acute angle of incidence between an incident radiation beam and a side wall of the object, and applying radiation to the crevice to polymerize at least the surface of a quantity of liquid photopolymer therein. The structure may then be subjected to a separate final full cure to fully harden the structure. An exemplary use is the packaging of electronic components and the like.
