Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a pneumatic vehicle tire includes the step of folding the carcass ply in the overlap zone of the leading and trailing ends into at least one fold to form an overlength of the reinforcement elements in the overlap zone for preventing the constriction in the overlap zone within the vulcanized, inflated tire. Subsequently, in both methods, the green tire is completed on the building drum and the green tire is then vulcanized to produce the finished tire.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for making a tread-belt assembly for a pneumatic tire using a supply ramp to supply green rubber tread stock for application on a substantially cylindrical green rubber belt package; advancing the tread stock along the supply ramp toward the belt package; positioning at least a final portion of the supply ramp substantially along a plane tangent to an outer circumference of the belt package; and applying the tread stock to the outer circumference by moving a leading cut end of the tread stock from the supply ramp to the belt package along the plane tangent to the outer circumference. The green rubber tread stock is held from above for moving by inserting a plurality of transfer pins downward into both edges of the green rubber tread stock such that each transfer pin is angled toward a closest laterally outside edge. The green rubber tread stock is secured for cutting; and is cut using an ultrasonically driven cutting blade such that a wedge of space is created between a back side of the cutting blade and the cut surface of an adjacent cut end of the green rubber tread stock, thereby preventing partial curing of the cut surface of green rubber. A cutting edge of the blade is moved along a first plane which coincides with the cut surface, but the back side of the cutting blade is coincident with a second plane which is angled forward from the first plane by an acute angle.

A method and apparatus 200 for building a laminate 10A and in forming a subassembly 10 for a pneumatic tire from an assembly of reinforced or unreinforced tire components wherein the method has the steps of providing an apparatus 200 for simultaneously forming, positioning, attaching and conveying a plurality of continuous strips of elastomeric tire components and activating the apparatus simultaneously forming, positioning and attaching the plurality of continuous strips of elastomeric tire components to adjacent strips of tire components as they are conveyed thus forming a laminate 10A of reinforced or unreinforced tire components suitable for use as a subassembly for a pneumatic tire.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to new and novel tire construction and method of making same wherein the uncured elastomeric material that is laid upon the tire building drum (22) during building of the tire preform (10) will not experience subtantially meridional stretch which would otherwise cause a decrease in the uniformity of ply thickness during expansion of the preform in the vulcaninzing mold.
Abstract:
A process for manufacturing, in one stage, a tire comprising a carcass reinforcement (1) which is radial in the sidewalls and oblique radially beneath a crown reinforcement (3), composed of at least two layers (31) and (32) of reinforcement elements (310) and (320) which are crossed from one layer to the next, wherein there is pre-shaped to a diameter D1 and by means of a sleeve of at least one shaping ply N, vulcanized and formed of reinforcement elements forming with the circumferential direction an angle &agr;1, laid on the building drum T of diameter D, at least the central part of a carcass reinforcement ply (1) formed of radial reinforcement elements (10) forming with the circumferential direction an angle ∓&bgr;1. There is laid on the central part at least one crown ply (31, 32) formed of reinforcement elements (310, 320) oriented relative to the circumferential direction at angles ±&ggr;1 (&mgr;&ggr;1), &ggr;1 being little different from &bgr;1. Shaping is effected by bringing the internal diameter D1 of the cylindrical blank to the internal diameter D2, which is the diameter of the vulcanized tire.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a device for the application (1) of at least one cable onto a rotating receiving surface (2) revolving at a speed V2, comprising means (10) for feeding the cable that comprise at least one capstan (11) revolving at a speed V1, means (20, 30) to displace the cable transversely relative to the receiving surface (2) and means (40) to position the cable on said receiving surface, characterized in that the means (20, 30) to displace the cable transversely effect said displacement by the combination of a rotary movement about an axis perpendicular to the cable travel direction with a pivoting movement in a plane containing the axis of said rotation, the extent of pivoting being determined by the ratio between the speeds V1 and V2.

A method of inflation able to prevent peeling of an inner layer in a process of molding accompanied with inflation and deformation, in particular, a method of molding a hollow composite by giving deformation toward an inner surface of at least one composite member so as to cause it to laminate with another composite member, comprising giving the deformation and performing the molding by a pressurizing and heating medium.
Abstract:
A conveyor assembly and method for conveying and storing a strip material in a conveyor system that is subject to changes in length of the strip material due to intermittent operation includes an upper conveyor (16), an adjustable substantially horizontal center conveyor (22) for receiving the strip material (34) from the upper conveyor, and a lower conveyor (28) for receiving the associated strip material from the center conveyor. A computer (94) controls the movement and rotation of the center conveyor, and loop detecting apparatus on the center conveyor may also detect a loop (90) in the strip material carried by the center conveyor and thereby detecting changes in length of the strip material not predetermined by the computer. A servomechanism (100) activated by signals from the computer or the loop detecting apparatus moves the center conveyor in a substantially horizontal direction.
Abstract:
A strip member is wound by a tire building machine having a building drum for taking up a strip member of predetermined length without discrete ends and a transfer conveyor for feeding the strip member to the building drum. The winding-start end of the strip member transferred from the transfer conveyor to the building drum and the winding-finish end of the strip member are detected by means of end sensors, measuring the angle through which the building drum has rotated from the output of a winding start signal to the output of a winding finish signal in response to output signals from the sensors by means of an angle detector. A lapping margin between the winding start end and the winding finish end of the strip member is calculated based on the rotational angle and diameter of the building drum by means of an operational means.
