摘要: An improvement in the method of preparing a glass-reinforced elastomeric product whereby cord blows may be eliminated. The method includes treating the glass fabric with a dip which improves adhesion to the rubber, and calendering the glass fabric and the rubber compound. The improvement comprises the step, prior to the calendering, of applying to the glass fabric an overdip composition including an effective amount of a material which is a cure accelerator for the rubber, whereby the amount of time required for full cure, and compaction of the rubber compound is reduced.

摘要: An aqueous alkaline dispersion of a rubbery vinyl pyridine copolymer, trimethylol phenol, and resorcinol compound, in certain amounts, is useful in forming an adhesive for bonding glass fiber reinforcing elements or cords to rubber compounds or stocks. After dipping the glass fiber cord in the one-step adhesive dip, the coated cord is heated to dry it and heat cure or heat set the adhesive on the cord. Thereafter, the adhesive containing glass fiber cord is combined or laminated (calendered) with a curable rubber compound and the resulting assembly is cured to form a composite in which the glass fiber cord is bonded to the rubber by means of said adhesive.

摘要: The production of staple fiber smoke filter elements and the like directly from a continuous filamentary tow. The products have functional and physical characteristics comparable to prior art filter elements, but require 20 - 30 percent less material. The continuous filamentary tow is chopped into staple fibers, dispersed in a turbulent air stream and blown into a forming means preferably comprising a porous belt which shapes and carries the stable fibers while processing fluids such as steam and cooling air are blown through the belt and into the staple fibers. The product can be supplemented by various additive materials.

摘要: A method and apparatus are disclosed for the fabrication of pultruded articles. The apparatus includes a means for heating the interior of a bundle of resin-wetted reinforcing material prior to the bundle passing into a heating forming die which heats the exterior of the bundle. Insertion of a thermocouple wire into the interior of the bundle prior to the bundle passing into the heated forming die allows the temperature of the bundle interior to be monitored during the curing process that occurs within the heating forming die. Adjustment of the bundle interior temperature relative to the bundle exterior temperature eliminates stresses caused by adverse thermal gradients that normally would exist without the use of such a bundle interior heater. Use of such a bundle interior heater allows the pultrusion of parts having a greater or thicker cross section than those now normally available.

摘要: An improved process for the manufacture of reinforced shaped articles from water-hardening materials. A plurality of continuous networks of synthetic organic polymer material having at least two meshes per square centimeter are incorporated in said water-hardening materials as reinforcement. The networks are prepared by forming meshes in an unfibrillated film of the synthetic organic polymer material.

摘要: A continuous strand consisting of loose filamentary and/or fibrous material is brought into engagement with a conveying and forming belt in at least approximately tension-free condition by means of at least one continuously moving conveying element which extends into the strand-gripping zone of the conveying and forming belt and which engages the interior of the strand. Next the strand is enveloped and brought to the desired cross-section by said belt. After achieving the desired cross-sectional form of the strand, the strand material is interfixed. The thus formed form-stable rod is then divided into rod-shaped portions by a cutting-device.
