Abstract:
Amino alkoxy-modified silsesquioxanes (amino AMS), and/or amino co-AMS compounds that also comprise a mercaptosilane or a blocked mercaptosilane, are excellent adhesives for coating plated or unplated metal wire for adherence of the wire to a rubber stock. The amino AMS and/or the amino/mercaptan co-AMS adhesives can be used with all types of rubber and there is no requirement for the use of special adhesive additives to the rubber vulcanizates, such as, but not limited to, cobalt, resins and high sulfur levels. In particular, the use of amino AMS and/or amino/mercaptan co-AMS compounds as adhesives for bonding wire to rubber also improves the adherence performance of the reinforcements to obtain sufficient bonding that is resistant to degradation over the course of time, especially resistance to thermal aging and/or thermo-oxidizing aging, in particular corrosion in the presence of water.
Abstract:
A monofilament made of glass-resin composite has improved properties in compression, in particular at high temperature, and comprises glass filaments embedded in a crosslinked resin. The glass transition temperature of the resin is equal to or greater than 190° C. The elongation at break of the monofilament, measured at 23° C., is equal to or greater than 4.0%. The initial tensile modulus of the monofilament, measured at 23° C., is greater than 35 GPa. The real part of the complex modulus of the monofilament, measured at 190° C. by the DMTA method, is greater than 30 GPa. Pneumatic or non-pneumatic tires are reinforced with such a composite monofilament.
Abstract:
A tire configured from joining together plural tire frame members formed from a thermoplastic material in which sufficient strength of the joint portion is secured. Two tire halves 17A formed from a first thermoplastic material are supported by a tire supporting section 40 so as to be aligned with each other and abutting, while rotating this configuration melted welding thermoplastic material 43 is extruded from a nozzle 46 towards the joining location, and the welding thermoplastic material 43 is pressed by a flattening roller 48. The one tire half 17A and the other tire half 17A are thereby welded together with the welding thermoplastic material 43.
Abstract:
Composite reinforcer (R-2) capable of adhering directly to a diene rubber matrix, which can be used as reinforcing element for a tire, having one or more reinforcing thread(s) (20); a first layer (21) of a thermoplastic polymer, the glass transition temperature of which is positive covering individually the thread or several threads; a second layer (22) of a composition having a poly(p-phenylene ether) (“PPE”) and a functionalized unsaturated thermoplastic styrene (“TPS”) elastomer, the glass transition temperature of which is negative, the elastomer bearing functional groups selected from epoxide, carboxyl, acid anhydride and acid ester groups, in particular an epoxidized SBS elastomer, covering the first layer (21). Process for manufacturing a composite reinforcer and rubber article or semi-finished product, especially a tire, incorporating such a composite reinforcer.
Abstract:
Provided is a pneumatic tire whose safety factor and durability are improved without generating a problem of an increase in the weight of a tire and an increase in the inner surface cord protrusion failure.Provided is a pneumatic tire including one or more carcasses 2 extending toroidally between bead cores 1 embedded in a pair of bead portions 11 respectively. A polyester fiber cord whose total decitex as a twisted cord is 4300 to 5100 dtex, whose cord strength as a dip treated cord is 6.5 to 7.2 cN/dtex and whose cord elongation at a stress loading of 2 cN/dtex is 3.5 to 4.0% is used as a reinforcing cord of the carcass 2, and the tenacity of a treat which is the reinforcing cord covered with rubber per unit width is 2.9 to 3.2 kN/cm.
Abstract:
A composite comprising a steel cords-covering rubber composition and a rubber composition which is contiguous thereto and contains a thiazole type vulcanization accelerator, at least one of these rubber compositions containing a m-cresol resin whereby they can be cured without decreasing the resulting strength of bond therebetween even after they have been left uncured in contact with each other for a considerable time.
Abstract:
Brass coated steel tire cord is treated with vaporized benzotriazole and/or other treatment agents to promote corrosion resistance and cord to rubber adhesion retention.
Abstract:
An aqueous alkaline dispersion of a rubbery vinyl pyridine copolymer and a water soluble, heat reactable o-cresol-formaldehyde-resorcinol resin, in certain amounts, is useful in forming an adhesive for bonding glass fiber reinforcing elements or cords to rubber compounds or stocks. After dipping the glass fiber cord in the one-step adhesive dip, the coated cord is heated to dry it and heat cure or heat set the adhesive on the cord. Thereafter, the adhesive containing glass fiber cord is combined or laminated (calendered) with a curable rubber compound and the resulting assembly is cured to form a composite in which the glass fiber cord is bonded to the rubber by means of said adhesive.
