    摘要: A variable cam profile selection system is disclosed having cams controlling both the tilt and the rotate motion of the single element typewriter. The tilt cam and rotate cam are mounted so that they may be moved with respect to their support to vary the cam rise. The rise of the cam is controlled by interposers under the influence of the keyboard to select or define the amount of movement of the cam member, thereby defining the cam rise. The single cam member for each movement may be positioned in any one of a plurality of positions and, by so doing, correspondingly effect the movement of the cam follower as the cam is rotated about an axis.

    摘要: A rotatable print disc is mounted on a carrier which traverses along the print line. The disk is moved from each character position to the next by the shortest distance and it is stopped at the time of printing. The carrier is moved from one print position to the next at a speed which is selected depending on the time required for the disk to rotate to the next character. Printing takes place with the carrier moving at one of a number of speeds. The force utilized to drive the hammer to print the characters is varied dependent on which character is being printed. Hammer firing for each character is timed dependent on printing speed and upon the force utilized to drive the hammer.

    摘要: A non-homing positioning mechanism to effect type selective movements of a single element typehead by means of coordinate band systems wherein the coordinate band systems are cntrolled by a translator comprising a four armed cross-shaped member unidirectionally rotatable in 90.degree. steps. A set of radially spaced pins are arranged along opposing arms of the cross-shaped member, the sets being alternately selectively settable in response to successive character selections to cause selective band displacement incident to each 90.degree. rotation of said cross-member. One end of each band system is anchored and the other end is connected to position and hold the typehead to a selected character in accordance with the displacement thereof through selected pins on opposing arms of and incident to movement of the cross-shaped member.

    摘要: A selection mechanism is disclosed which employs a controlled steerable follower for selecting and following a cam groove in a barrel cam to cause relative translation between the barrel cam and the cam follower. The motion of the barrel cam while translating is converted into rotary motion to rotate a single element on a single element printer to accurately position a selected row of characters adjacent the print point. A similar follower is used to cause translational movement of the tilt cam and a bell crank and link arrangement is used to translate the lateral movement of the tilt cam to the type element. The control of the rotate cam follower is electro-mechanical wherein a signal is converted by a linear motor into a mechanical movement at a desired time within a cycle and thus dictates the selection to be made, when combined with an electrical signal to a solenoid for selecting the direction of rotation to which the cam translatory movement is to be converted. Means are disclosed which allows absorbing within the mechanism, of inertia shocks, such that the parts of the device may be made smaller and still withstand the forces required for selection.

    摘要: A device is disclosed for shifting a bifurcated rack from one position to a second position, thereby engaging alternate sides of a bifurcated rack member with a pinion in a spacially fixed position. The rack shift mechanism is controlled by a direct link to the keyboard of the typewriter which responds to movement of a shift key lever. The mechanism performs a force multiplication and, at the same time, a displacement division function to reduce a relatively large key lever and link displacement to a relatively small rack displacement with a correspondingly higher force factor. The force multiplication linkage translates the rack of the rack/pinion pair to engage the alternate portion of the rack, thereby reversing the rotation of the pinion and allowing the selection from the opposite hemisphere of the type element in response to a selection output.

    摘要: There is disclosed a selection mechanism for a single element printer comprising an operating link connected with the print element for the driving rotation thereof and having a first and a second input portion, and a modifying member having the link mounted thereon for pivotal motion about the first input portion. A cam follower is provided on the modifying member for engagement by a case shift cam, which is operable independent of the print shaft, to shift between a pair of locations in either of which a first character selection means cooperates with the modifying member to position the latter in either of two distinctive positions so that the first input portion of the operating link is positionable to any of four positions. The second input portion of the link is associated with a second character selection means for positioning the link to any of a plurality of pivotal positions relative to the first input portion thereof. The selection mechanism is simply constructed by connecting all the input means to a single operating link mounted inclusively on the carrier and, therefore, the selection mechanism can be manufactured at a low cost. Maintenance and adjustment of the printer can also be greatly minimized.

    摘要: There is disclosed a typewriter using a single element print head wherein the tilt and rotate positions for character selection are obtained by servo systems driving tilt and rotate shafts. The system utilizes a digital multiplexing system whereby common elements in the servo channels are time shared. One common element is a binary arithmetic unit which compares binarily represented actual and desired position values of the shafts to fetch from a memory desired velocity information. The fetched velocity information in binary form is compared with the binarily represented actual velocity of the shafts to generate signals for energizing the servo motors which drive the shafts.

    摘要: A digital logic and servo system for controlling a servo motor which rotates a single element print head to a new print position by conforming the servo motor to an optimized velocity profile in accordance with a digital comparison between a rotate position error code and a derived velocity code. The rotate position error code and a weighted velocity code are derived from the output of a resolver that provides position information to the digital logic which causes the rotate motor to rotate the print head in the direction of the new print position in conformity with the optimized velocity profile. Digital logic is included that changes the weighting of the derived velocity code as it is input to the position error versus velocity comparator at a point in a print cycle when damping may be reduced without the risk of overshooting the new print position.
