Crane-support apparatus for mounting a tower crane onto a side of a high-rise building under construction, enabling ascending of the tower crane according to the upwards progression of the building construction, including a chassis configured to support a climbing frame of the tower crane mast, and at least one reinforcement element. A distal end of the chassis is hingedly attached to the distal end of the reinforcement element. In a deployed, support mode, the chassis is aligned in a horizontal position, and the reinforcement element is aligned in a slanted position. In a folded, mobilization mode, the chassis and the reinforcement element are configured to be pulled by at least one lifting cable at the distal end of the chassis and the reinforcement element with the chassis and the reinforcement element hingedly folded and aligned in vertical positions. A method for using the apparatus in both modes is also provided.

A method for erecting a structural tower includes providing a plurality of tower sections and engaging a translatable crane assembly with a lower one of the tower sections. A second one of the tower sections engages with a cable operatively engaged with the translatable crane assembly. The second one of the tower sections is hoisted towards an upper end of the lower one of the tower sections and the second one of the tower sections is secured to the lower one of the tower sections. The method finally includes translating the translatable crane assembly vertically along the secured tower sections towards the upper end thereof. The present invention is an improved apparatus and method for forming a retractable tower or column. The present invention includes pointed hooks wherein the hooks are attached to each section of a section chain, one in a horizontal direction and one in an off-set manner. The section chains are placed on a take up mechanism in an operable position and then raised utilizing a motor. As the section chains are raised, they are guided by a guide tower, rollers, shims, and gear racks into a position whereby hooks from adjacent sections of the section chains form coupled engagements. The coupled engagement of the hooks of the sections of each adjacent section chains thereby form the column.

A method is also disclosed and may include positioning an erection apparatus near a base of a mast of the wind turbine system, the positioning including locating the erection apparatus substantially concentrically with the mast. The method may also include picking a mast section from near the base of the system with the erection apparatus, lifting the mast section along the length of the mast, and translating the mast section into the erection apparatus and into alignment with the mast.
