The present invention discloses a microbial polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA)-containing oil with a high triglyceride content and a high oxidative stability. In addition, a method is described for the recovery of such oil from a microbial biomass derived from a pasteurized fermentation broth, wherein the microbial biomass is subjected to extrusion to form granular particles, dried and the oil then extracted from the dried granules using an appropriate solvent.

A synthesis process is disclosed for producing a conjugated fatty acid at specified temperature in high yield, including providing an ester of a fatty acid having somewhere in its carbon chain a chain of four carbon atoms such that carbon one bears one hydrogen and one hydroxyl group, carbon two bears two hydrogen atoms, and a double bond is positioned between carbon three and carbon four and reacting with a chloride selected from the group consisting of toluenesulfonyl chloride, methanesulfonyl chloride, benzenesulfonyl chloride, alkylsulfonyl chloride, and aryl-sulfonyl chloride at a temperature in the range of 10null C.-100null C., preferably 20null C.-50null C. The synthesis process provides a conjugated fatty acid formed from the ester reacted with diazabicyclo-undecene. In one aspect, the ester is formed in a pyridine solvent. In one aspect, a mesylate is formed with mesyl chloride in acetonitrile and triethyl amine. In one aspect, the reaction with diazabicyclo-undecene is conducted in a polar, non-hydroxylic solvent of acetonitrile to form a preferred isomer at the specified temperature in high yield.

Stable, enzymatically triggered chemiluminescent 1,2-dioxetanes with improved water solubility and storage stability are provided as well as synthetic processes and intermediates used in their preparation. Dioxetanes further substituted with two or more water-solubilizing groups disposed on the dioxetane structure and an additional fluorine atom or lower alkyl group provide superior performance by eliminating the problem of reagent carryover when used in assays performed on capsule chemistry analytical systems. These dioxetanes display substantially improved stability on storage. Compositions comprising these dioxetanes, a non-polymeric cationic surfactant enhancer and optionally a fluorescer, for providing enhanced chemiluminescence are also provided.

null,null-ethylenically unsaturated aldehydes and/or carboxylic acids are prepared by means of a two-stage catalytic gas-phase oxidation in which a gas mixture comprising at least an alkane or alkene having from three to six carbon atoms and oxygen is subjected to a catalytic oxidation reaction, in the first stage (1). oxygen is added to the gases produced in the first stage (1) and the resulting mixture is introduced into the second stage (2) in which it is subjected to a further catalytic oxidation reaction. In the process of the present invention, a signal which correlates with the oxygen content of the reaction gases before and/or after the addition of oxygen between the first and second stages (1, 2) is generated and the oxygen addition is regulated as a function of the signal. Also provided are an apparatus for regulating a process for preparing null,null-ethylenically unsaturated aldehydes and/or carboxylic acids and an apparatus for preparing these substances using the regulating apparatus of the present invention.

The present invention relates to production of ethylenically unsaturated acids and ethylenically unsaturated esters by the catalytic reaction of an alkanoic acid or an alkanoic ester, with formaldehyde, in presence of a basic catalyst and optionally in the presence of an alcohol. More specifically, this invention relates to production of methyl methacrylate, an ester, by reaction of methyl propionate with formaldehyde, in presence of a basic catalyst, for example, cesium acetate on silica. This invention discloses a process for obtaining a high conversion of ethylenically unsaturated acids and esters.
