THE UNIQUE DIELECTRIC COMPOSITIONS COMPRISE ABOUT 55-76 PERCENT BY WEIGHT OF A FERROLECTRIC MATERIAL AND 45-24 PERCENT OF A GLASS BINDER. THE GLASS BINDER EMPLOYED COMPRISES A LEAD BARIUM BOROSILICATE GLASS AND A FERROELECTRIC MATERIAL PREVIOUSLY DISSOLVED THEREIN. THE COMPOSITION IS FORMULTED INTO A PRINTING PASTE BY FIRST DISSOLVING 20-30 PERCENT BY WEIGHT FERROELECTRIC INTO 70-80 PERCENT BY WEIGHT LEAD BARIUM BOROSILICATE GLASS BINDER, COOLING THE NEWLY FORMED GLASS TO A SOLID STATE, COMMINUTING THE GLASS TO A PARTICLE SIZE OF LESS THAN ABOUT 1 MICRON AND THEREAFTER ADMIXING THE COMMINUTED GLASS WITH THE SAME PARTICULTE FERROELECTRIC IN AN AMOUNT AS INDICATED. THIS ADMIXTURE IS THEN ADDED TO A LIQUID ORGANIC CARRIER VEHICLE TO FORMULATE THE PRINTING PASTE. THE RPINTING PASTE IS THEN PRINTED INTO A CHOSEN DESING AND FIRED AT A TEMPERATURE OF APPROXIMATELY 1,000-1,050*C. TO PRODUCE A HIGHLY DENSE, UNIFORM, AND SUBSTANTIALLY CRACK-FREE DIELECTRIC MATERIAL.

A bonding agent for a ceramic decalcomania comprises a balanced combination of a fast acting solvent and a moderating agent. A thickening agent may also be present. The decalcomania may be applied to the article either before or after a glaze is applied. The use of such a bonding agent for adhering a decalcomania to ceramic ware permits glaze firing without the necessity of first removing the organic material in the decalcomania and fusing the pigment to the ceramic article by prior heat treatment.

A composition is provided for use in selectively plugging waterrich strata of a subterranean formation so that the oil-to-water ratio of production will be increased, said composition including in preferred embodiments an aqueous solution of sodium carboxymethylcellulose, chromium potassium sulfate, and orthocresol. Methods for selective plugging are provided which include injection of a selective plugging composition into subterranean formations having water-rich and oil-rich strata whereupon the material, after a significant period of time, assumes a much greater viscosity in the water-rich strata. Pretreatment and post-treatment options are provided for improving results under certain conditions.

Pullulan reacts with alkylating agents such as dimethyl sulfate, diethyl sulfate, ethylene oxide, and propylene oxide to form the corresponding lower-alkyl or hydroxy-lower-alkyl ethers which are much less soluble in water than pullulan, but retain sufficient sensitivity to moisture to be biodegradable when they do not contain more than one, and preferably not more than 0.5, alkoxy or hydroxyalkoxy group per glucose unit in the pullulan molecule. Films and fibers of the ethers are mechanically strong and are readily plasticised with water-soluble polyhydric alcohols. The ethers can be molded above their softening temperature in conventional injection or compression molding equipment. The films are practically impervious to atmospheric oxygen and suitable as packaging material.
