摘要: A method for making a particulate filled polymeric matrix composite film includes mixing a polymeric matrix material with a dispersion of particulate filler in a carrier liquid to form a casting composition and adjusting the viscosity of the casting composition to retard separation of the particulate filler from the composition. A layer of the viscosity-adjusted casting composition is cast on a substrate and the layer is consolidated to form the particulate filled polymer matrix composite film. Films made by the method include very thin, e.g less than 1.0 mil, fluoropolymeric matrix films highly filled with very small diameter, preferably spherical, particles for use as, e.g. dielectric substrate materials in laminar electrical circuits.

摘要: A low-solvent aqueous binder includes: a water-insoluble synthetic resin component A; and an emulsifier resin B in a mass ratio of A to B of from 70:30 to 30:70. The emulsifier resin B is a reaction product of a water-insoluble synthetic resin B1 that includes hydroxyl groups as functional groups, a synthetic resin B2 that includes carboxyl groups as functional groups, and a neutralizing agent for the carboxyl groups of B. The amount of the neutralizing agent is such that the neutralizing agent is able to neutralize from 5 to 200% of the carboxyl groups of B. A process for preparing a low-solvent aqueous binder includes: mixing the water-insoluble synthetic resin component B1 comprising hydroxyl functional groups and the synthetic resin B2 in bulk or dissolved in an organic solvent to form a mixture; removing the solvent by applying subatmospheric pressure and heating until the content of the mixture is at least 85% by mass; maintaining the mixture at a temperature from 90° to 150° C. until the reaction product of the mixture is homogeneously emulsifiable in a mass ratio of 3 parts of resin to 7 parts of water; neutralizing the reaction product by adding a neutralizing agent in an amount sufficient to neutralize from 5 to 200% of carboxyl groups that have remained following the reaction; adding the water-insoluble synthetic resin A in a mass ratio of A to B of from 70:30 to 30:70, and emulsifying the mixture in water.

摘要: An aqueous emulsion composition is provided that includes, as the dispersoid, a (co)polymer that contains at least one monomer unit selected from ethylenic unsaturated monomers and dienic monomers, and, as the dispersant, (A) a polyvinyl alcohol (co)polymer, and (B) a condensate of an alkali metal salt of an aromatic sulfonic acid with formaldehyde in a ratio, (A)/(B), of from 100/0.05 to 100/100 in terms of the solid content of the two. The composition is characterized by its fluidity such that the apparent viscosity of the composition is prevented from being lowered relative to the increase in the shear rate of the composition, and that the apparent viscosity of the composition is increased relative to the increase in the shear rate thereof. In addition, the composition has excellent high initial adhesiveness and viscosity-increasing ability.

摘要: A one-step direct method of making a high molecular weight functionalized polyolefin aqueous emulsion is provided. In this one-step direct method, a functionalized polyolefin having a molecular weight of at least 10,000, a fatty acid, a base, a surfactant, and water are heated in a pressure reaction vessel to a temperature above the emulsification temperature of the polyolefin with agitation for a period of time sufficient to form an aqueous emulsion. This high molecular weight functionalized polyolefin aqueous emulsion can be added to a sizing composition and applied directly onto glass fibers in the glass fiber manufacturing process.
