One embodiment can comprise a polymer-containing solution containing hydroxypropylmethylcellulose at a concentration by weight from about 0.05% to about 5.0% and chondroitin sulfate at a concentration by weight from about 0.1 to about 7%.

A p-i-n type photovoltaic cell is also exemplified in addition to other electronic devices employing melanin-like materials and processes for the production of mechanically stable, flexible films of melanin-like material for use in electronic devices.
