Abstract:
Symmetrical stepped grate/rabble arm combinations for use in a fixed bed coal gasifier are shown in which the stepped grates comprise step plates having in combination threwith means for controlling the rate of discharge of solids therefrom. The solids discharge controlling means described comprise adjustable mechanical dams at spaced locations along the step plate periphery together with means for the positioning thereof.
Abstract:
According to the apparatus and method, combustible gas having a stable composition can be formed even if the load is charged. Burners are provided in the upper and the lower regions of an entrained bed coal gasification reactor. The temperature of the product gas is kept low in the upper region and high in the lower region. The volumes of the upper and lower regions are changed to meet the load so that the rate of heat loss becomes constant even if the load changes. Since the rate of heat loss can be kept constant and consequently variation of the composition of the product gas can be suppressed small, the efficiency of the coal gasification electric power generating system can be kept constant.
Abstract:
Provided is a gasification furnace that can efficiently gasify a biomass resource. The gasification furnace may include a furnace body including a cylindrical storing unit that may store a biomass resource, an oxidizer supplying unit that may supply an oxidizer into the furnace body, a shaft extended in a vertical direction in the storing unit and including an oxidizer supply path through which the oxidizer may be passed, an oxidizer supply tube that may include an oxidizer channel that communicates between a supply port for the oxidizer opened in an outer surface in contact with the biomass resource in the storing unit and the oxidizer supply path of the shaft, and a driving unit that may rotate the shaft with the vertical direction in the storing unit set as a rotation axis to thereby turn the oxidizer supply tube in the storing unit.
Abstract:
An improved grate construction for a fixed bed coal gasifier comprises an interrupted generally cylindrical platform including a plurality of sector-like portions and rotatable means, e.g. a stirrer, mounted for rotation adjacent the upper surface of each platform portion. The upper surface of each portion is inclined upwardly in a circumferential direction to an upper leading edge thereof from which an upright wall depends. The stirrer is rotated in the opposite circumferential direction for cooperating with the depending walls to reduce the size of clinkers and for promoting movement of solids from the shaft over the platform.
Abstract:
A method of gasifying carbonaceous material is described. The method comprises a first step of pyrolyzing and partially gasifying the carbonaceous material to produce volatiles and char. The volatiles and the char are then separated and, subsequently, the char is gasified and the volatiles are reformed. The raw product gas is then finally cleaned with char or char-supported catalysts or other catalysts.
