    摘要: A method for improving the formability of zinc coated steel sheet, and the product produced therefrom. The steps of the method include applying to the zinc coating an oxalic acid solution in an amount that will form a zinc oxalate film having a coating weight in a range of s about 10 mg/ft.sup.2 to about 100 mg/ft.sup.2. A lubricant is applied to the zinc oxalate film, and the lubricant is adsorbed by the zinc oxalate film to provide a lubricated zinc oxalate film that is bonded to the zinc coating. The method produces an improved zinc coated sheet product having a tightly formed lubricated coating structure resistant to galling in the die steels of a forming press. The improved zinc coated sheet product having a lubricated zinc oxalate film improves formability and reduces the coefficient of friction during the forming operations that shape the zinc coated steel sheet or strip into a finished product shape.

    摘要: The invention is the chemical composition and method for forming a chemical conversion coating on ferrous metal surfaces and subsequent coloring of said conversion coating through the application of a water-soluble dye. The conversion coating has an ordered crystalline structure composed of ferrous oxalate or other ferrous dicarboxylates. The conversion coating can be colored through the application of a water-soluble reactive dye which bonds with Fe (II) within the ferrous dicarboxylate matrix, bound to the dicarboxylate molecules, thereby becoming water insoluble and permanent. When sealed with an appropriate rust preventive top coat, the result is an attractive and protective finish of minimal thickness which can be applied through simple immersion process techniques. Said finish can serve as a final protective finish on a fabricated ferrous metal article and also affords a degree of lubricity for assembly, break-in purposes, or anti-galling protection and serves as an adhesive base for paint.

    摘要: Substrates, especially those having plated metal surfaces, are subjected to passivation treatments in baths that incorporate one or more film-forming agents at least one of which does not require chromium and includes anions or cations of elements other than chromium. Typically, the anions or cations are introduced as bath-soluble salts which react with the plated surface of the substrate to form an adherent, coherent passivation surface film. Also present within these baths are a source of hydrogen ions and a bath-soluble carboxylic acid or derivative activator for enhancing the rate of the passivation reaction. Articles passivated in baths incorporating these film-forming agents have a hydrophobic surface that exhibits corrosion resistance and that typically has a bright finish.
