摘要: A vehicle includes an engine, an alternator, and a battery bank electrically connected to the alternator via a connection line. The connection line includes a current sensor configured to measure an electrical current through the connection line. The vehicle also includes a start-stop system configured to determine, during a time when the engine is off, that a voltage of the battery bank is below a first threshold value for a first predetermined period, provide a control signal to a starter to start the engine to initiate charging of battery bank, determine, by the current sensor, that the electrical current is below a second threshold value, and in response to the determination, provide a control signal to turn the engine off to terminate the charging of the battery bank.

摘要: A starter system including a motor, a solenoid assembly having a solenoid switch, a pinion rotated by the motor and moveable into an engaging position in which an engine may be cranked and the solenoid switch is closed to energize the motor from an electric power source, and relay switch regulated by a controller and closed to apply electrical power to the solenoid assembly for actuating the solenoid switch. The controller repeatedly opens and closes relay switch during a starting operation if sensed motor energization voltage monitored by the controller falls below a predetermined threshold level within a predetermined time period after electrical power is applied to the solenoid assembly, whereby electrical power applications to the solenoid assembly are automatically repeated during a starting operation to correct “click-no-crank” events and prevent prolonged power application to the solenoid assembly. A related method is also disclosed.

摘要: A method and a system for operating an electric turning machine (ETM) operatively connected to an internal combustion engine (ICE) are disclosed. The ETM operates as a motor with a first control strategy and as a generator with a second control strategy, the second control strategy being distinct from the first control strategy. The system comprises an engine control unit adapted for controlling an operation of the ETM according to the first and second control strategies. Electric and assisted start procedures are available for starting the ICE by delivering electric power from a power source to the ETM which is co-axially mounted to a crankshaft of the ICE. Assisted start includes delivering the electric power to the ETM while a recoil starter is used to rotate the crankshaft. A manual start procedure is also available. The power source is charged by the ETM when the ICE is running.

The apparatus of one embodiment includes a first connection for connecting the apparatus to an energy source, in particular to a vehicle battery and a second connection for connecting the apparatus to a starting apparatus of a motor vehicle. The apparatus also includes a current-limiting module for limiting a starter current, a control unit for driving the current-limiting module, and at least one starting process detector, which is connected to the control unit, for identifying a starting process. The control unit, on the basis of a starting process signal from the starting process detector, prompts the current-limiting module to carry out a starter current-limiting measure.

摘要: The method according to the invention is implemented in an alternator-starter (1) comprising phase windings (u,v,w) connected to an inverter (3) linked to an onboard electrical network (2) powered by a battery for operation as a starter. The invention involves controlling the inverter in a chopped full-wave control mode when the rotational speed (Ω) of the alternator-starter is lower than at least a threshold speed and in a full-wave control mode when the rotational speed is higher than the threshold speed. According to a specific embodiment, the switching between the chopped full-wave control mode and the full-wave control mode takes place according to a hysteresis cycle using two predefined threshold speeds.

摘要: A multi-mode powertrain system including an internal combustion engine, a high-voltage electric machine and a high-voltage electric power system is described. A method for controlling the multi-mode powertrain system includes, in response to an operator initiating a jumpstart, electrically connecting the high-voltage electric power system to a remote electric power source and energizing contactors between the high-voltage electric power system and the remote electric power source. Electric power flow through an auxiliary power module electrically connected to the high-voltage electric power system that supplies electric power to an accessory device is minimized. Engine starting parameters are modified, and the internal combustion engine is started by controlling, via a controller, the high-voltage electric machine to spin the internal combustion engine, and controlling operation of the internal combustion engine based upon the modified engine starting parameters to effect starting.

The booster battery is connected when the battery voltage of the primary batteries is at or above the second target voltage, or in response to an external input.

In an embodiment, a method may include detecting a cold-crank event and setting a switching circuit to a non-conductive state, where the switching circuit is configured to couple a first regulator to a memory circuit such that setting the switching circuit to the non-conductive state de-couples the memory circuit from the first regulator. The method may also include setting the switching circuit to a conductive state in current limitation mode during a recovery period following the cold-crank event to re-couple the memory circuit to the first regulator. In another embodiment, an electronic device include a switching circuit, a first regulator coupled to a first terminal of the switching circuit, a second regulator coupled to a second terminal of the switching circuit, a logic circuit coupled to the switching circuit, and a memory circuit coupled to the second terminal of the switching circuit.

The system comprises: an input coupled to a power line of a vehicle; means to filter out relatively high frequency transient noise components of a signal received from the power line; a first detector for receiving the filtered signal and detecting when transient noise associated with the power line rises above a first threshold and generating a first detection signal in response thereto; a second detector for receiving the filtered signal and detecting when the transient noise falls below a second threshold, which is lower than the first threshold, and generating a second detection signal in response thereto; and means for generating a first output signal in response to the first detection signal and a second output signal in response to the second detection signal.
